A Takoradi district court has convicted 2 stowaways to a fine of GH¢660 each or in default serve a seven months jail sentence.
[contextly_sidebar id=”POApNuIHEuZYgTwSiw0Lo9y1eFApqJn3″]The two, Nicholas Acheampong, 19 a resident of Apowa and Justice Nana Woode, 22 from Takoradi Amanful are cocoa carrier and electrician respectively.
They both pleaded guilty to 2 counts of conspiracy to commit crime and stowaway.
The Prosecutor, ASP Isaac Mensah Appenteng told the court presided over by Thomas folleyvie that on November, 15 2014, the two sneaked into a container vessel MV Bolta which had then berth at the Takoradi Port and was bound for Spain
Upon arrival at the final destination on November 24, one of the two, Thomas who looked frail and almost unconscious surrenderd himself to the crew on board and after interrogation led the crew to the hideout of the other colleague.
The two were subsequently detained on board and were handed over to the Ghana immigration on the ship’s return to Ghana on December, 12
The were subsequently charged and processed for court.
