A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Yaw Ayim, a 28 year-old galamsey operator (illegal miner), to six years imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty for stealing a 32 inch Haire flat screen television valued at 1,350 Ghana cedis.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, that the complainant, Charles Arthur, is a staff of the Tarkwa branch of Stanchart Bank and lives at Tarkwa Zongo while the accused is a resident at Tarkwa Na Aboso.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Mnb4IK7T9buTx96knH4lYbTX9BHJr8C8″]She said around 0730 hours on December 5, this year, the complainant woke up to brush his teeth outside his room and upon his return, realized that thieves had entered the room through the back door and made away with his 32 inch flat screen television.
Chief Inspector Tawiah said Arthur informed the town folks and while they were assisting him to conduct a spot search, Ayim was seen carrying the stolen item.
She said the accused, upon spotting the people, took to his heels but he was chased and arrested and taken to the police station together with the television.
Chief Inspector Tawiah said when Ayim was interrogated he said one Kwame who is now at large, master minded the theft and the two of them executed the plan together.
