Presidential Staffer, Dr. Michael Whyte Kpessa, has been reassigned to head the National Service Scheme (NSS) temporarily.
This was announced by the presidency on Sunday.
Dr. Whyte will be at the helm of the scheme until President Mahama appoints a substantive Executive Director.
[contextly_sidebar id=”hBOXgyiB6Iq8heM2pd3LY3SniCuT6P8o”]The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) recently uncovered massive corruption at the scheme.
According to the investigations about GHC7.9 million was paid to 22,612 non-existent national service persons in more than 100 districts in July 2014.
The Executive Director Alhaji Alhasan Imoro and 26 others are currently under investigations over the matter.
Dr. Kpessa, a former university lecturer, is expected to guide the operations of the Scheme during the period of the ongoing investigations.
With interests in Governance, Institutional Design, Social Policy & Public Administration, Dr. Kpessa who is a member of the Policy Team at the Presidency is expected to implement Presidential directives, among others, aimed at restoring the values of the National Service Scheme and its key objectives.
Meanwhile, the BNI has granted bail to the six Regional Directors of the NSS indicted in the corruption scandal.
