The members of the Progressive Road Contractors Association have abandoned all road construction projects across the country.
This is to protest government’s failure to direct funds into the Ghana Road Fund over a long period of time.
The delay in releasing the funds has further led to the deterioration of road networks nationwide.
The Vice President of the Association, Hammond Larbi, in an interview with Citi News lamented over the inadequate government funding which has forced the contractors to pre-finance the projects.
He said this constraint has slowed down major road projects adding that, “the contractors are funding the road networks for the country. We are doing that at our own expense; we are paying huge interest to the banks.”
Mr. Larbi indicated that the association has contacted government and is awaiting a response.
“We have spoken to our Ministry and it has presented a memorandum to the finance ministry to be sent to cabinet for approval. They are not doing anything about it,” he said.
