The National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Kofi Portuphy has formally announced his intention to contest the national chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His announcement follows an earlier one by a former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dan Abodakpi.
Speaking at the launch of his campaign Kofi Portuphy says he will ensure the party he retains the party in government after in the 2016 elections.
He said his campaign will be based on four thematic areas; unity, team work, accessibility and electoral victory.
Portuphy warned that the NDC should not underestimate how disunity can easily affect the fortunes of the party and promised that under his leadership, he will unite the varied interests of individuals in the party “into one purposeful venture.”
“NDC under my chairmanship will never become prey to any other political party,” he pledged.
The NADMO boss also stated that he will make the leadership of the party accessible to members because “the lack of access to information has nearly ruined the confidence in the leadership of the party.”
He said the existence of such practice heightens suspicions among party members therefore he will endeavour as chairman of the party “to make myself available to everybody in the party 24/7.”
The NDC is expected to hold its national congress to elect new national executives in October this year.
