The Aliu Mahama Foundation has called for greater discipline among Ghanaians to preserve the nation’s trademark as the gateway to Africa.
The foundation is convinced that the essence of building a prosperous nation depended on a disciplined society.
Its Executive Director, Dr. Kwadwo Frimpong has therefore admonished the clergy to serve as the architects of building a disciplined Ghana.
He made the call at the climax of the 2014 Quranic recitation competition was sponsored by the Aliu Mahama Foundation and organized by the Ghana Islamic Tournament at the Hudai Centre and the Dara Salam Mosque in Accra.
He attributed the nation’s numerous challenges to indiscipline, hence the need for the clergy to use their pulpit to correct what he described as the rising moral decadence in Ghanaian societies.
“Most of the problems we have as a nation are due to the fact that most citizens are indiscipline and I entreat our religious leaders who are well respected in our societies to use their position and authority to preach discipline.”
Dr. Frimpong said the event formed part of activities lined up to rekindle the late vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s campaign against indiscipline in society.
Son of the late vice President, Farouk Mahama pledged the family’s continual support to the Muslim community to mentor Muslim youth to become responsible citizens.
He said the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama was a leader who abhorred indiscipline for which reason the Muslim community should emulate his shining example.
Notable among high profile personalities who graced the occasion were the National chief Imam, Sheik Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National President of Zongo Chiefs, Chief Abdul Kadir (Accra Dagomba Chief) and Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
Fifty students of age 19 from five selected schools participated in the competition at the end of which Rashad Islamic School in Accra emerged victorious.
Halaqutu Ummatu Iqra and Halaqatu Masjid Rasulallah Islamic schools won the second and third positions.
