Members of the Sissala East District Assembly in the Upper West Region on Monday approved President John Mahama’s nominee for the area as district chief executive.
23 people, representing 77% of the total number of 30 registered assembly members, voted in favor of 61-year-old Johnson Sabor to lead the assembly.
Five voted against him and two invalid votes were recorded.
The Sissala East District, until the retired educationist’s confirmation remained the only one out of the 11 districts of the Upper West region without a DCE after the assembly members in October, 2013 rejected a first nominee.
there were fears that Mr. Sabor would not be confirmed because of internal wranglings within the NDC party in the area.
Speaking to Citi News after his confirmation, Mr. Sabor thanked the President and the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him.
He said the District is lagging behind in many areas, hence, the need for a collaborated effort to bring the needed development to the area.
He said: “What has just happened is far more than an individual so let’s work together to improve the living conditions of our people.”
Mr. Sarbor also appealed all people in the district to bury their political differences and rally behind him to accomplish his vision for the area.
Meanwhile, a youth group of the NDC calling itself, young democrats has expressed confidence in Mr. sabor.
In an earlier statement signed by secretary of the group, Kusiaw Frank Fuseini, the group said his nomination is an indication that the president is concerned about the development needs of the people in the area.
