Government has warned it will no longer accept any excuse from both the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Takoradi International Company (TICo) over the conflicting dates of completion of the T2 thermal Plant at Aboadze.
The Energy and Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah made this known on his tour of the thermal plant.
The T2 thermal plant developed a fault on its compressor turbines in January this year.
In the process, 220 megawatts of power was lost, worsening the energy crisis in Ghana.
Mr. Armah Buah expressed frustrations at the varying dates being given by the experts.
He stated that mere assurances are not enough as industries are collapsing which is causing the laying off of workers in the midst of economic hardships.
“It is causing very serious damage to this economy and so somebody should be held to account…and I think we are going to do that.”
The Minister in an interaction with the Managing Director of TICo, Nana Sarfo Adjei Kantanka said the experts who were flown into Ghana to address the situation have admitted and they misassembled the turbine heads on the second unit.
He indicated that currently, all the misassembled turbine back heads have been taken apart for re-assembling by experts who have been brought into the country.
According to him, his outfit has been assured that “come the 1st of July, we will have the second unit producing 100 megawatts to complement the existing 100 megawatts to give us 200 megawatts on T2.”
Mr. Kantanka pledged that TICo will revisit the contractual arrangement with Wood Group and Ethos Energy once the units are back on line “and whatever remedial actions that would have to be taken.”
