drowning-ghanaA primary four pupil has drowned in an abandoned galamsey pit at Hiawa in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region.

Despite attempts by the president’s special taskforce to reclaim most of these illegal mining pits many more are still lying unattended to.

According to a resident in the area, Isaac Kwesi Anim, the pupil, Isaac Oteng fell into the pit when he went to swim with some friends.

He stated that those who saw him swimming reported that they couldn’t find him after sometime.

According to him, three hours later, they decided to look for him in the water and found the body.

Mr. Anim in that regard emphasized the need for  assembly members and opinion leaders in the area to work together to ensure that the problem of constant drowning is tackled.
