The coalition served notice of marking Ghana’s 57th Independence with a demonstration in Accra to protest the introduction of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) into the country’s food chain, a move the Police has advised against.
The group has vowed to defy the police order insisting it their right.
Speaking to Citi News however the Accra Regional Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey said they will attempt to persuade the group or resort to the courts.
“I know they are organized people, they are not lawless people so I know this is a position that they are stating tha they will not carry through because we are working with the law and it is our plea that they should reconsider their position,” he said.
“They have every legitimate right to have a demonstration but there are guiding rules and regulations that is manifested in the public order so I believe they will reconsider their position but in case they don’t consider their position, we are going to advise ourselves ….we will apply the law to its logical conclusion so in effect the law will stop them from carrying out the demonstration,” he added.
