Okyehene and President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has called on President Mahama and the government to support local entrepreneurs as a way of giving meaning to its call on Ghanaians to patronize made in Ghana goods.
The Okyehene made the call when the President called on the Regional House of Chiefs as part of his visit to the Region.
According to the Okyehene there is the need for government to implement prudent policies which will ensure Ghanaians control the domestic economy. He bemoaned the failure of Ghanaians to control its domestic economy, a situation he described as worrying and must be prevented.
‘’The point I am making is that we need to support the young entrepreneurs in Ghana; young people who are creative and innovative like any young child or man in the world, we need to have credit access for them to establish start up business,” he said.
According to him Ghana can only be worthy only if the indigenes are given the chance to be worthy. ‘’… We preach that we want Ghana to worthy, Ghan will not be worthy unless the people who live in Ghana are given the chance,’’ he noted.
The Okyenhene also added that‘’… We have built a foreign direct investment economy that is strong, that has given us a good name, but in the end if we don’t take care of our domestic economy and ensure that our young people are in charge we will forever be sad.’’
On his part, President John Mahama promised government support for local entrepreneurs by putting in place deliberate measures to do so.
‘’We can only grow an economy that makes this nation worthy if we empower our own people to be able to capture the commanding heights of the economy; so for those young people who are entrepreneurial, who have the advantage to be able to grow in any private sector activity, it is the government’s wish to work with them to ensure that we able to grow our own entrepreneurs who are able to make money and able to re-invest in our own country,’’ he pledged.
