The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs will soon begin a nationwide exercise to identify and take inventory of traditional festivals that promote and preserve cultural heritage.

These festivals, Chieftaincy Ministry to take inventory of festivals, the Sector Minister said, will be linked up and exposed to the international community to enhance participation and boost eco-tourism as well.

He made this known when he addressed some paramount chiefs as part of his weeklong visit to some traditional council in the Brong-Ahafo Region on Monday.

Dr Daanaa noted that some festivals continue to serve as catalyst for national peace and stability and that the Ministry ought to ensure that those festivals were supported and well celebrated as a means to develop and sustain national tourism.

He explained that the realignment of the chieftaincy ministry demanded that traditional beliefs and values that facilitated accelerated national development were preserved.

Dr Daanaa also disclosed that his Ministry had rolled out capacity building programmes to sensitize staff of the various Houses of Chiefs on the provisions in the chieftaincy Act.

Pemapem Yaw Kabrese V, Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area, appealed to the Ministry to rejuvenate a training school the chieftaincy institution established in Kumasi purposely for the training of its staff.

He said adequate in-service training for staff of the chieftaincy institution would improve efficiency and effectiveness in their work and helped promote and sustain cultural heritage.

Pemapem Yaw Kabrese, the President of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, said relative peace had returned to Yeji with people going about their socio-economic and political actvivties without fear and hindrances.

At Bassa Traditional Council in the Sene East District, Nana Owusu Sakyi III, the Paramount Chief, said the District was still under-developed and appealed for a hospital, a senior high school and the rehabilitation of the main road in the area.

He said the Kwame-Danso-Kajeji road was in a bad shape and it needed rehabilitation works.
