The Integrated Social Development Center (ISODEC) has blamed the recent water crisis to government’s lack of investment in the water sector.
Speaking to Citi News campaign coordinator Steve Mantey said government has turned a blind eye to improving infrastructure to serve the growing population especially in urban centres.
“The problem is basically the same, if you talk about growing population I will say that when your population is growing you need to also expand the infrastructure that will deliver water to the growing numbers of people that are joining the numbers in the capital,’’ he said.
According to him a huge investment is needed to expand the pipeline services to the areas that are fast growing, like Kasoa, Pokuasi, etc.
Parts of Accra have been hit with an acute water shortage .Accra and its environs have been without water for almost one week following the breakdown of the Weija Treatment Plant.
The water shortage started last Wednesday.
Officials of the Ghana Water Company Limited have fixed the HDPE pipe along the transmission line from the Weija Water Treatment Plant to the Awoshie Water Works.
The cracked pipeline, which was responsible for the water crisis compelled the Ghana Water Company to stop the flow of water from the Weija plant to parts of the capital.
