The National Treasurer of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), David Apasera, has expressed readiness to face the party’s former flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga in court if he proceeds with the defamation suit against him.
Mr. Ayariga is seeking GHC 1 million in damages against the defendant, Apasera.
This comes on the back of an allegation made against Mr. Ayariga, the former flagbearer of the PNC, for squandering the party’s campaign funds.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Apasera said his legal team is putting together a response to the suit.
“Whatever he is advancing, it is my lawyers who will take it up. I am going to tell my lawyers what I heard and then my lawyers will know how they will paly my defense,” he said.
He explained that when Mr. Ayariga was elected the flagbearer of the party, he was “walking in the name of the party so whatever was given to you, it was given to foster the interest of the party and not to appropriate as personal gains.”
Mr. Apasera claimed that the vehicles Mr. Ayariga currently has in his possession were possibly purchased with the missing party funds and other offers he received in the name of the party.
He insisted that he has made no false claims because “whatever I say, I see before I say it. Whatever you see is there in evidence so I don’t have a fear of defense.”
