Former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has commended the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) and the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council for withdrawing their summons on him and Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.
This was necessitated by calls on the two bodies to rescind their decision of punishing the two lawyers for violating the Association’s code of ethics during the 2012 Presidential election petition hearing.
As lead Counsel for the National Democratic Congress during the election petition hearing, Lawyer Tsikata accused one of the nine Judges, Justice Anim Yeboah of allowing his political bias to cloud his judgment.
On the other hand, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko described the election petition judgment by the Supreme Court as dishonest.
The two lawyers were expected to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council.
But President of the Ghana Bar Association, Nene Amegatcher confirmed that the GBA and the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council have withdrawn the case.
In the forgiven spirit of the two bodies, Mr. Amegatcher said they were no longer pursuing the matter.
Speaking to Citi News from London, Gabby Otchere Darko welcomed the pardon and described it as a wise decision.
According to Gabby, his Lawyers were yet to communicate to him the reasons for the withdrawal but still commended the GBA and the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council for their decision.
