The Minister of Education, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has inaugurated a committee to fight and find solutions to teacher absenteeism.
The committee, known as, Zero Tolerance for Teacher Absenteeism form, part of efforts by the Ministry to effectively implement the policy and to increase working hours teachers spend in the class room.
The inter-sectorial committee was mandated to deliberate and submit proposals to address the issues of teacher absenteeism and limited contact hours.
The Education minister Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also called on all stakeholders in the sector to develop a collective responsibility spirit in finding solutions to the challenges.
Meanwhile, a former Director General of the Ghana Education Service Michael Nsowah said the move will ensure that teachers don’t absent themselves from school.
The move, according to him, will also ensure that teachers are always in time.
“We need to strengthen management at the school level so that we don’t spend additional moneys to keep people in check.”
