Tunisian club Esperance Tunis were rated the best club by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), which chronicles the history and records of association football.
The Blood and Gold finished at the 81st position globally, but number one on the African continent.
The January 2014 list is topped by European and world champions Bayern Munich followed by Spanish giants Real Madrid and Premier League side Chelsea.
CS Sfaxien, also from Tunisia, emerged as the second best African team with an overall position of 85 ahead of Caf Champions League champions Al Ahly on 103.
