He said this during his trip to the Volta Region where he called on the Regional House of Chiefs to thank them for their support during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) victorious election bid, which saw the party capture an unexpected parliamentary seat in the region.

Nana Akufo-Addo also spoke highly of the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state, Togbe Afede XIV, who was recently elected as the new President of the National House of Chiefs.

“You are in a great position to help in the modernization of the chieftaincy institution. You come to the position with great credentials and I am sure that you will get the support of other like-minded chiefs to help you.”

“I intend to work with you at all levels; the Traditional Council, the Regional Houses of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs to enhance the governance of our nation,” Nana Akufo-Addo said.

Describing the NPP’s election victory as a contract with the people of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo also promised that the incoming NPP government will keep its side of the contract.

“I and the government I will lead shall always remember that the people of Ghana expected the quality of their lives to improve. we shall always remember that Ghanaians want to be treated with dignity,” the President-elect declared.

Nana Akufo-Addo is currently on a thank you tour as he awaits his swearing in on January 7, and has already visited the Asantehene and the Asanteman Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region to express his gratitude for their support.

The priest was said to have greeted the congregation and sang a Christmas song before delivering his sermon still wheeling around on the device, but the Catholic Church didn’t like it.

He’s been suspended from his job at Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Biñan Parish, Philippines, where he gave the sermon on Christmas Eve.

People in the congregation were amused and clapped when the sermon on the board began, but with its sense of humour being practically non-existent, the Church didn’t like it.

The Diocese of San Pablo said it was a violation of the ‘highest form of worship’.

It said on Facebook: The Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence.

‘It is the Church’s highest form of worship, not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get attention.’

The diocese added that the priest said that it was a ‘wake up call’ for him. ‘He acknowledged that his action was not right and promised that it will not happen again.

‘He will be out of the parish and will spend some time to reflect on this past event. He would like to apologise for what happened.’

The 29-year-old had rigged the contraception dispenser in the German town of Münster with a homemade bomb so he could blast it open and steal the change inside.

But as it exploded, a steal shard hit him in the face, knocking him unconscious.

His two accomplices, aged aged 27 and 29, took him to hospital but he died of his wounds shortly afterwards.

At first the men claimed their friend had injured himself after falling down the stairs, before one later admitted to the connection to the exploded machine.

Police told The Local.de the men did not take the money or condoms which had poured from the machine following the explosion.

Instead officers found its contents scattered on the street after they were alerted by local residents.

Nur Elita was marched to the yard of Baiturrahumim Mosque in Banda Aceh for violating the region’s strict Sharia laws, after she allegedly showed affectionate behaviour to a fellow university student.

Under the law men and women, who are not spouses, are not allowed to get too close due to the the ‘khalwat’ offence and punishment is by public caning.

After being brought to the stage as the crowd cheered, the woman was forced to kneel down while a masked man repeatedly whipped her with the cane.

She received five lashes and at the end of the punishment could be seen lying on the floor doubled over in pain.

Eventually she was carried off the stage, into an ambulance, and had to be taken to hospital.

Also being caned was the man she was accused of getting too close to and he was forced to stand while being whipped.

Meanwhile four other men were also forced to endure the punishment for gambling, which is also outlawed under Sharia law.

According to the Jakarta Post, the caning ceremony was carried out in front of the deputy mayor of Banda Aceh Zainal Arifin.

And before the ceremony he warned the crowd that had gathered that the caning were a lesson to everyone.

He said: ‘Take these punishments as a lesson. What has been done by these convicts should not be taken as example.

‘And I hope their caning today will be the last ever.’

Banda Aceh is the only province in Indonesia to implement Sharia Law, which was first introduced in 2003 following the province’s awarding of special autonomy status.

Sharia Law

Sharia law is the legal system of Islam which is derived from both the Koran and the rulings of the religion’s scholars.

It acts as a code that all Muslims are adhered to live to and include rules of prayers, fasting and donations to the poor and covers both public and private behaviour.

Offences are divided into two categories – hadd offences, which a serious crimes with set penalties and tazir crimes, where punishment is left to the the discretion of a judge.

Hadd offences include theft, which is punishable by the amputation of the offender’s hand and adultery, which can result in being stoned to death.

Apostasy, or leaving the faith, is also against Sharia law and can also be punishable by death.

Other offences against Sharia law include denying Mohammed, gambling, drinking alcohol and women talking to a man, who is not her husband or relative.

She managed to free herself before the fire service arrived at the scene.

A yellow rain warning is in place across parts of Northern Ireland, and there have been reports of flooding on some roads, particularly in the west.

Dermot Rooney, from the Fire and Rescue Service said they had received six calls for assistance on Monday afternoon and evening.

“We had a call to the Rosemount area of Derry,” he said.

“On our arrival, a female had been removed from the car prior to our arrival, uninjured as far as I know.

“We would ask people, particularly when they’re out in cars, not to drive into flood water.

“Flood water can seem shallow, but it doesn’t take very much water to make a car float away.”

Police are asking motorists to exercise extreme caution on the A1 on Monday evening due to heavy flooding on both carriageways between Banbridge and Dromore.

According to scientists from the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, the new contraceptive will be lined with a hydrogel-based product (hydrogel being a water-based gel, generally used in healing cuts), which kills the HIV-virus in the event of a condom breakage.

The condom will also feature an antioxidant to enhance sexual pleasure.

“If the HIV virus gets into the product, the condom will block it, prevent it replicating, and prevent entry [from the body].”

The condom is expected to go on sale next year, with Dr Choudhery saying, “we know that we don’t need FDA approval, and several companies are very interested in working with us.”

Dr Choudhery’s team plan to make the new condom affordable, with the team estimating it to cost around $1.

The announcement comes afternewly diagnosed HIV cases in Europe reached a 30-year high of 142,000 in 2015.

Juan Manuel Santos said the move put Colombia “in the group of countries that are at the forefront…in the use of natural resources to fight disease”.

But, he said, the country would still fight illegal drug production.

Up until now, marijuana production in Colombia had fallen into a legal grey area.

While a 1986 law allowed for the manufacture, export, sale and medical and scientific use of marijuana, the practice was, until Tuesday, never formally regulated.

Anyone wishing to grow marijuana must now apply to the National Narcotics Council for a licence. Medical marijuana is used for medical ailments such as Crohn’s disease, seizures, HIV and nausea.

Last year, Mr Santos, who has admitted smoking cannabis while a student in Kansas in the 1970s, said legalisation would take drug production out of the hands of drug traffickers.

A number of countries in Latin America have decriminalised or legalised marijuana use in recent years, as have US states such as Colorado, Oregon and Washington. Uruguay fully legalised the production, sale and recreational use of marijuana in 2013.

Colombia has been plagued by decades of drug-related violence, and is better known as the world’s biggest producer of cocaine, along with Peru.

By March, 3,000 of the capital’s 8,900 buses will use B20 green diesel, which is blended with waste from the meat industry.

Animal fat and cooking oil are among the ingredients that will be churned into the bus fuel.

The buses are all owned by Stagecoach and Metroline, while the diesel will be supplied by Argent Energy.

More than 640 buses already run on the modified fuel as part of a two-month trial.

Deputy Mayor for environment and energy Matthew Pencharz said the development would “slash the overall carbon emissions of the fleet and make use of fuels that would otherwise be clogging up our drains”.

He added: “These buses will be a proud addition to what is already the greenest bus fleet in the world, including hybrid, pure electric and pure hydrogen vehicles.

“We will continue to work with our industry partners to use more of London’s used cooking oil turned into biodiesel right here in the city, creating green jobs and fuel self-sufficiency benefits.”

TfL’s buses director Mike Weston said: “This improvement, which will reduce CO2 emissions by 21,000 tonnes each year, is being introduced now with no extra spend needed and no long delay for the fitting of new kit.”

Argent’s development director Dickon Posnett said he hoped other cities would follow London’s cue and start using the B20 blend in buses.

TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone plan means all 300 single decker buses operating in central London must be electric or hydrogen-powered by 2010.

All 3,100 double decker buses must be hybrids by the same date.

The couple tied the knot in a civil union in Kampala and their wedding has been a social media sensation not least because of the lovebirds’ four decade-long age difference.

The dreadlocked musician posted pictures of the wedding on his Facebook page, looking sharp in a black tuxedo while his bride sported a simple sleeveless white dress.

Guvnor, who has already changed his Facebook status to “married to Mona-Lisa Larsson”, says he’s not ashamed to flaunt his love for Lisa.

“I am not the first to love an older woman. People do it all the time…People who love older women hide it. But I am not ashamed of what I am doing” he told Monitor in an interview.

The singer has also been accused for “#DatingAnAncestor” for her money but refutes this saying “When we met, I had my own money. I was living well. True, she has her money but I love her for who she is. But we help each other financially, just like other couples do”.
“Many hated on us but love conquered all and the world witnessed this when I put the ring on the woman of my life,” he said on Facebook.

Guvnor has already released two singles in Lisa’s honour titled: Mona Lisa and Mukadde. In one of his songs, Guvnor sang, “The one you call elderly, I discovered secrets in her and she gives me love to the fullest”.

The wedding has certainly set tongues wagging on social media from derogatory to congratulatory messages.
