The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has described as premature, calls for all current national executives of the party to be voted out.

The latest to call for the complete overhaul of the national executives came from Ghana’s Former High Commissioner to the UK, Victor Smith.

[contextly_sidebar id=”SZd235SwqTjnwykw61RUozkr4vQYPZCC”]Mr. Victor Smith contended that, the abysmal failure of the NDC should be put squarely at the feet of the current executives, saying“we should change the whole guard. We should start with some die-hard selfless people… I think he [Asiedu Nketia] has been there long enough. We should just clean the stables.”

This is in spite of the fact that he sees nothing wrong with maintaining former President John Mahama, who led the NDC to its monumental defeat from a position of incumbency.

But speaking to Citi News, Koku Anyidoho said party members must hold their horses until the Kwesi Botchway Committee releases its report on the NDCs defeat in the 2016 elections.

“We have said continuously that we are waiting for the Kwesi Botchway report. For me as a National Executive Committee member, it will be unfortunate on my part to engage in some discourse that will tend to look at the NDC internal issues beyond the remit of the Kwesi Botchway report and other matters.”

Some workers of Ghana Post, have demanded the immediate removal of their Managing Director, Eric Yaw and two other senior staff of the company.

The aggrieved workers are alleging that, their MD and Human  Resources Manager, Mary Koppisah, have protected the company’s Head of ICT, Godfred Aboagye, to embezzle funds belonging to the company.

The workers were demonstrating on Thursday morning, where Citi News’ Phillip Nii Lartey spoke to a worker who alleged that the Head of ICT had been involved in some dubious deals “that have caused a lot of financial loss to the country.”

He also stated that, the main reason they were calling for the MD and Human Resources Manager to be sacked, was because they have failed to act on the workers’ concerns.

“We have consistently spoken to them about the head of ICT and his attitude, but anytime the union comes out to talk about the head of ICT, they will come out and defend him,” the worker complained.

Retirees owed benefits

The worker also lamented that, some retirees were to receive some benefits owed them since 2012.

The workers’ provident fund that management is supposed to support, has also been in arrears for the past 20 months, according to one of protesters.

“So it ends up making the worker worse off in the sense that, this problem fund should be put in investments so that when the worker is going, he can get some huge sum of money to keep himself up. But it is being held for the past 20 months… So we feel that management is not giving workers what they deserve. They are not after the welfare of workers.”

After two years of investigations into a botched police recruitment scam in 2015, the former Director General in-charge of Human Resource at the Ghana Police Service, COP Patrick Timbilla has been fired for his role in the scandal.

The former senior Police officer was interdicted after the incident, following his alleged role in the scam in January 2015.

Timbilla was subsequently placed under house arrest after he was implicated by some of the victims of the recruitment fraud.

A special task-force which was set up to investigate the matter, is said to have seen text message evidence and other correspondence between him and the victims of the scam.

The special task-force therefore recommended his interdiction for fear that he could interfere with the ongoing investigations.

When Citi News contacted COP Timbilla, he stated that, “I will comment at the right time through a press conference.”

Police sources have indicated that COP Timbilla intends to appeal his dismissal.

The dismissal comes at a time when the current Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, is ending his tenure. A new IGP is soon to be announced.

Recruitment scam

In 2015, hundreds of men and women arrived at five police training depots for enlistments into the Ghana Police Service but they were turned away after it was discovered that the enlistment was a scam and their recruitment letters were fake.

The Interior Ministry together with the Ghana Police Administration launched investigations into the matter and mounted an intensive search for the culprits.

Some culprits implicated in the scam were subsequently arrested.
