The announcement was made at Solidaridad office at East Legon on 24^th January, 2018.

In becoming the ambassador for the climate change initiative, Kwame will help drum home the impact of the climate change.  He will also be very instrumental in using his art work to project the cause.

Mr. Isaac Gyamfi, the Regional Director for Solidaridad West Africa said the choice of Okyeame Kwame was premised on his influence in society and quest to embark on developmental projects.

“We sent some of our staff around to ask who within the showbiz space is so serious by way of how he takes his own business and has carved for himself a brand that resonates positively with the people in our society. And we had a lot of critical discussions and we were unanimous that Okyeame Kwame has made a name in the showbiz space and has a clout in terms of respect for him,” he noted.

“More so, Okyeame Kwame has already demonstrated a strong support for development and is already engaged in addressing issues like Hepatitis B. He has also been involved in some tree planting exercise,” he added.

Okyeame Kwame after being named ambassador for the project, thanked the company for choosing him and promised to use his craft and personality to affect the campaign.

“I believe that if you can put the interest of other people first, that is when you are living the life that God wants you to live. I strongly believe that for us to develop as a people everybody must use their positive attitude, instincts, abilities, talents for the society to grow,” the Rap Doctor intimated.

He further noted that even though this is an opportunity for him to impact society, it will be very challenging and he would be ready to go through all it takes to achieve his goals.

This project will strengthen the knowledge and practices of targeted local communities in the Western and Brong-Ahafo Regions of Ghana in REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation plus Conservation of Forest Carbon Stocks, Sustainable Forest Management, and Enhancement of Forest Carbon Stocks) processes and sustainable forest management.

The Solidaridad-World Bank partnership

The World Bank has approved funding of $5.5 million under the Ghana Dedicated Grant Mechanism (G-DGM) for local communities. The project will support 52 communities in natural resources management in the Brong Ahafo and Western regions of the country.

Under the G-DGM, Solidaridad will partner with the Forest Investment Programme (FIP) and the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) project to strengthen the knowledge and practices of communities for reducing deforestation and improving the sustainable management of their activities. This initiative will take place during a three-year period from 2017 to 2020.

Kwabena Kwabena after putting up a spirited performance of his hit songs could not leave the dance floor but waited and enjoyed Okyeame Kwame’s astounding highlife songs by displaying a few dance moves.

The 2017 edition of MOGO was held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on Saturday with hundreds of patrons in attendance.

The night saw great performances from ace highlife musician Paapa Yankson, Adane Best, Nana Kwame Ampadu, A.B. Crentsil and Amandzeba.

Ghana’s epic drama group, Wogbejeke noted for its wonderful theatrical performances, through drama, music and poetry also had the opportunity to tell the history and evolution of Ghanaian music.

The 2017 Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) was sponsored by GCB Bank, Freight Consult and Nallem Consult, and is powered by Citi 97.3 FM.

The two joined Citi FM’s Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show for a conversation ahead of the Ghana@60 edition of the Music of Ghanaian Origin [#MOGO2017] Dinner Dance.

In the conversation, Okyeame and Kwabena Kwabena spoke about recent trends where Ghanaian DJs play more Nigerian music than they play that of Ghanaian artistes.

“When I listen to the radio, what I realize is that our DJs play more Nigerian music than Ghanaian music. I am begging our DJs, to try and make it at least 50-50,” Kwabena Kwabena posited.

On the other hand, Okyeame Kwame observed that, it is important for technocrats to promote Ghanaian art to the point where the country will be known for that.

“For Ghanaian music to stand, everybody must pay attention and come together. Our technocrats must help the arts to the point where we will know that though we can’t make aeroplanes, we can use our arts to sell Ghana.”

Okyeame Kwame and Kwabena Kwabena will be sharing the MOGO stage with AB Crentsil, Paapa Yankson, Nana Ampadu, Amandzeba, Adane Best, and some surprise acts.

Chief Moomen and his Wogbejeke crew will also be there to give patrons a taste of the history of Ghana’s music history.

The artists will be backed by the able X-Therapy Band.

The award was given to him in recognition of his humanitarian efforts in Ghana – the Okyeame Kwame Hepatitis B campaign.

The Presidential Service Award is the highest civilian honour that is granted to US citizens and permanent residents for their voluntary community service towards development.

Okyeame Kwame was given the award by Dr. Pauline Key, on behalf of former American president Barack Obama, with a congratulatory plaque which had an inscription, “Outstanding Humanitarian Service in Ghana.”

This is not the first time Okyeame Kwame has been honored in America. In 2016, he was given a key to the city of Cincinnati for his humanitarian works.

He was also appointed as an iconic figure by the World Hepatitis Alliance.

CiM, Ghana presented Okyeame Kwame with a medal and some certificates when this honour was bestowed on him on February 3, 2017. On the same day, Okyeame delivered a presentation at the institute’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) seminar. The theme of the seminar was ‘Branding for Global Recognition.’

This was the sentiment of Kwaku Sintim Misa (KSM) on Tuesday as the media, friends, family and sections of the creative arts industry gathered at Zylophon Media for the brand book launch, with Okyeame Kwame as the centre of attraction.

The launch, hosted by Earl Ankrah, was graced by entertainment and business icons including; Mr. Kwabena Agyekum of CIMG, Bola Ray, KSM, Elikem the Tailor, corporate managers from Unilever Ghana Ltd and West Hills Mall.

The brand book, essentially and break down of the calendar year activities of the brand OK, was also an ushering in of the 20 year anniversary of Okyeame Kwame in Ghanaian popular culture.

Since his breakout year in 1997 as one half of the”Akyeame” hiplife duo, Okyeame Kwame has been a mainstay on the Ghanaian music scene with four solo albums to his name. His longevity in the industry has been lauded alongside the awards and accolades that have buttressed his legitimacy as one of the finest artistes of the last two decades.

The launch event outlined some highlights of the OK brand in 2016; including self acclaimed ‘Best Rapper Alive’ being presented with the key to the city of Cincinnati in the US and his awareness campaign and combating hepatitis B alongside his chart-topping musical releases

The OK Brand in 2017

The OK brand’s 2017 will see the return of the acclaimed Versatile Show and some more hepatitis screenings, which this time will extend to 5 other countries on the continent. The brand will also spawn some new events and programmes, including and event tagged the ‘Flaunt Your Lover’ movie night in February, ahead of Valentine’s Day.

He will also embark on a Black History Month Tour in March to commemorate Black History Month in the US with The Versatile Show, speaking engagements in Universities in the states.

Fans of the rapper can expect him to release his fifth solo album in March titled: Made in Ghana which will be followed up with the premier of his Rap based reality show – ‘Rap with OK’ – in April.

Speaking on his brand’s plan for 2017, Okyeame Kwame said, “every month we have a product and that product is aimed at creating a reality show and also assisting people, inspiring people and beyond that… The aim of it is to be able to be able to create your own event, inspire people employ people and also compete in this competitive environment.”

What was not lost on the gathering was that Okyeame Kwame went down as the first Ghanaian artiste to possess a brand book. The brand book, as indicated by the rapper’s Brands Manager and wife, Mrs. Annica Nsiah-Apau, was written to “provide a guide for the Okyeame Kwame brand and partners”.

“The mission of the OK Brand is to consistently create inspiring content and become one that intelligent professionals aspire to work with… we go beyond exciting, creative content. We value your values”, she said.

Music the core of the OK brand

With so many activities branching into a number of varying social and entertainment sectors, the question was if music was going to take a backstage in Okyeame Kwame’s evolotion as a brand.

In a later interview with citifmonline.com, Mrs. Nsaiah-Apau, however, assured fans of the much-loved rapper they needn’t worry about him leaving music behind as music was his passion and the core of the OK brand.

“If you check our itinerary for the year, you realise we were doing a whole lot of other things even though music remains the core product as the brand still needs to extend.”

“We like to let things take their natural course so you realise that at any point in time if there is a demand for one thing you don’t struggle to bring the other thing that has no demand out. If at a point it time the Versatile Show is what is in demand as opposed to music, he would not stop doing music. He will do that alongside the show.”

Okyeame Kwame

His performance at #D2R2015 was one that was worthy of great applause. He did some of his old songs and added some of his hits from 2015.

Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale has emerged as one of the best performers in the country. The charisma that he has pulls the crowd to him, such that wherever he goes to perform, no matter the kind of people he’s performing in front of, he gets people singing along to his songs.

Guru

Some describe Guru as a party artiste. Most of his songs are club bangers that always get people dancing; from Samba to Pooley. He, however, seems to be trying something new with the track Gold. He has also promised to give us a taste of what his next album will be like, maybe he will even release the album on that stage.

Joey B

If you are looking for the kind of performance that Joey B will bring you, just look at the video. Not much will be said, apart from the fact that his crazy stunts normally get the crowd to him.

Article Wan

Article Wan is one of the new guys but he looks promising.His body language suggests that whenever he gets the opportunity he will not disappoint.

Nii Funny

He’s been on a few platforms and he looks good on those.
