The Ghana Immigration Service is among the first-six border-security agencies in Africa to benefit from a Risk Analysis Cell (RAC), to be established at its Headquarters under the Africa-Frontex Intelligence Community (AFIC) project.

This was made known when a delegation from Frontex, led by the Head of Risk Analysis Unit, Javier Quesada, called on the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kwame Asuah Takyi at the GIS Headquarters.

Javier Quesada noted that, the gesture was to support and empower member countries of AFIC and strengthen the collaboration that existed between them with the common interest of fighting serious cross-border crimes affecting Africa and the European Union.

“The project is to develop the capacity of AFIC member countries, work on joint intelligence analysis of crime by training analysts, and setup Risk Analysis Cells and provide technical equipment” he said.

The Head of Risk Analysis Unit indicated that, the project was designed and tailored to meet the needs of each beneficiary country, and that it would build their analytical capacity and create a platform for exchange of information on cross-border crime and foster closer cooperation among AFIC countries.

The CGI indicated that security was a shared responsibility, and that issues bordering on security was of prime concern globally.

He noted that intelligence failure had cost places like New York, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Istanbul a great deal of emotional pain and countless loss of lives.

“Risk analysis is critical in the scheme of national development”, he added.

The CGI who lauded the project said it was a good opportunity for officers to build their capacity as the Service continually seeks to tighten its operational activities on irregular migration and cross-border crimes.

The RAC, which seeks to boost intelligence gathering in the fight against irregular migration and cross-border crimes, would aid member countries of AFIC to develop and share analytical products and actionable intelligence.

The rest of the African countries to benefit from the project are; Nigeria, Gambia, Niger, Senegal, and Mali.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Kwame Asuah Takyi, has indicated his readiness to work with all officers to promote good governance within the Service.

He made the remark while addressing a durbar of Senior Officers at the Service’s Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday.

The CGI said he would encourage strong administrative structures and undertake governance roles that include fair and equitable distribution of resources, and strengthening of the human resource base that would help achieve the goals of the Service.

He also assured them that all anomalies in the promotion of personnel, would be corrected, and that there would no longer be undue delays, stressing that “I will fix the human resource problems.”

According to him, any institution with poor human resource base was doomed to fail, and that strong and effective human resource system was the building block of every viable institution.

Asuah Takyi reiterated his commitment to building the capacity of personnel, and intimated that, unfairness, inequality, and injustices, would be a thing of the past under his leadership.

He urged the Senior Officers to take charge of their command and control roles, and be accountable as well as remain transparent in their dealings.

He admonished the personnel to use in-house procedures to seek redress, and not to take to the media issues of the Service, adding that, it would only mar the image and hard-won reputation of the Service.

He reminded them that his door and that of his three Deputies were open to address pertinent issues of personnel.

The embattled Indian businessman, Ashok Kumar Sivaram, who was deported illegally, has filed a lawsuit at an Accra High Court seeking an order to be given a temporary working visa.

According to the lawsuit filed by his lawyer, Gary Nimako, the temporary working visa will enable him live and work legally in the country while figting his illegal deportation case in court.

An Accra High court had earlier indicated that the Interior Minister breached the rule of natural justice by refusing to give the plaintiff a hearing after he had accused him of allegedly committing fraud.

The court on July 31, 2017, quashed the deportation of Mr. Sivaram by Ambrose Derry.

According to the court, the Interior Minister exceeded his jurisdiction by determining fraud against the Indian businessman without recourse to the court.

The court also indicated that the Interior Minister breached the rule of natural justice by not giving the plaintiff a hearing after he had accused him of allegedly committing fraud.

But Mr. Sivaram, since his return to the country has not been given a visa despite a court order.

The Indian businessman has also petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to call the Minister of Interior and the Comptroller of the Ghana Immigration Service to order over what he termed as harassment by the aforementioned personalities.

Mr. Sivaram said he was constantly being harassed by officials of the Ghana Immigration Service and he believes his frustrations are part of a grand scheme to transfer his interest in his company, Jai Mai Communications Limited, to his business partner.

The Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Kwame Asuah Takyi has, however, rejected accusations that he is conniving with the Interior Minister to frustrate the Indian businessman.

We’ve no agenda against Indian businessman

Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Kwame Asuah Takyi has rejected accusations that he is conniving with the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, to frustrate an Indian businessman.

“He has misled the public. He has thrown dust into the eyes of the public. What would the Minister of Interior, honorable Ambrose Dery, gain by interfering in the business of a foreign expatriate… why should he?” Mr. Takyi asked in a Citi News interview.
