Citi FM/Citi TV’s highly anticipated week-long trip of a lifetime, the 2024 Heritage Caravan, has reached full capacity, with all tickets sold out over a month before the journey.

For eager patrons who missed out on securing seats for this year’s exhilarating journey, they’ll need to mark their calendars for next year’s excursion in 2025.

Early bird patrons who secured their spots are in for an unforgettable 8-day expedition across the diverse landscapes of 14 out of the 16 regions of Ghana.

Scheduled to take place from March 3 to 10, 2024, the Heritage Caravan has become a hallmark event, eagerly awaited each year.

During an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on January 24, Frema Adunyame, Head of Events and Partnerships at Citi FM/Citi TV, reminisced about the overwhelming response seen in 2023, with patrons already inquiring about the 2024 edition back in December.

“Last year [2023] too, we recorded thesame. Even when we were preparing for the 2023 Citiuation All White Outdoor Party, people were already calling about the 2024 Heritage Caravan in December. The day we closed registration, five people made payments. If you are still on the registration list, you can’t make payments now. If you are not on the registration list, don’t even bother to call. You can join next year. Well, we hate to say we told you so.”

Responding to inquiries about accommodating more participants, Frema cited infrastructure constraints in certain regions as a limiting factor, urging future patrons to secure their spots early to avoid disappointment.

“We wish we could accommodate more, but unfortunately, our main challenge lies in infrastructure. Beyond Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, in places like Tamale and Bolgatanga, the availability of hotels is very limited. Moreover, the quality of hotels we select for our patrons is stringent, which adds to the challenge. Unfortunately, this is where our limitations lie.”

She assured participants of a culinary adventure, cultural immersion, and exposure to tourism highlights across the regions visited.

Embarking from the vibrant Greater Accra Region, the Heritage Caravan will traverse the picturesque terrains of Volta, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Bono East, Upper East, Northern, Savannah, North East, Ashanti, Western North, Western, and Central Regions before returning to Greater Accra.

The Heritage Caravan offers a unique road trip experience, providing participants with an intimate encounter with Ghana’s cultural heritage.

Since its inception in 2016, the Caravan has explored every region, visiting iconic sites such as Mole National Park, the Military Museum, Bonwire Kente Exhibition, the Slave Memorial at Assin Manso, Elmina Castle, Larabanga Mosque, Nzulezu village, and the crocodile pond at Paga, among others.

As a flagship initiative of Citi TV and Citi FM, the Heritage Caravan is held annually in March as part of the Heritage Month celebrations.

The Heritage Caravan 2024 is powered by Citi TV with support from 97.3 Citi FM. It’s proudly sponsored by the National Lottery Authority, Goil PLC, and Hollard Insurance.

Patrons of the Heritage Caravan, Citi FM’s seven-day road trip across Ghana, on Friday, laid a wreath at the spot where dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns lost her life.

Ebony, along with two others, died on Thursday, February 8, 2018 on the Sunyani-Kumasi road in a gory car accident.

Her funeral has been slated on March 24, 2018 at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

Patrons were in a very solemn mood when they made a stop at Nyamebekyere in Ashanti region to lay the wreath.

The Caravan was on its way to the Western Region after spending a day in the Brong Ahafo Region.

After laying the wreath, the patrons prayed for the departed souls of the dancehall queen and her two companions.

They expressed their displeasure about the number of potholes on that stretch and called on government to ensure the road is immediately fixed to forestall further accidents.

The Heritage Caravan is a road trip across Ghana organized by award-winning tourism-inclined media house, Citi FM.

The Caravan has so far made stops in the Volta, Northern, Upper West, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions visiting some scenic sites in those regions.

The Heritage Caravan has ended its tour of the Northern and Upper West Regions.

Patrons of the Caravan had a nice time at Wechiau in the Upper West Region on Wednesday, where they visited the Hippopotamus Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is a unique community-based project, protecting and preserving the wildlife and the environment of a 40km stretch of the Black Volta River.

The river is home to one of the two remaining hippopotamus populations in Ghana, and was made a Sanctuary by local chiefs in 1999.

Since then, the project has provided Ghanian and International tourists with a unique eco-travel experience.

The area has a huge diversity of wildlife.

The team also visited the Mole National Park and the Laribanga Mosque.

Prior to visiting the Upper West Region, the Caravan was in Northern Region where the patrons paid homage to the Chief of Tamale at the Dakpema Palace.

The Caravan has so far toured, the Greater Accra, Volta and Ashanti Regions.

The Heritage Caravan on Wednesday departed for the Brong Ahafo after wrapping up its Northern Regional tour.

Patrons of the 2018 Heritage Caravan by Citi FM, had an eye opening experience on Sunday, March, 4, 2018 in the Volta Region, when they visited a community in the Agortime -Ziope District, which as a result of the colonial demarcation, had part of it in Togo and the other part in Ghana.

The Wodome, which literally means “in the middle” is a community near Kpetoe, the district capital.

The people who were part of one community and shared common culture and beliefs were during the colonial period split and shared between the two neighboring countries.

Members of the Heritage Caravan team after their almost three-hour trip from Accra, made their first stop in this community; an experience most of them described as an eye opener, seeing that on one side of the street is Ghana,  and the other Togo.

There were homes that had their building in Togo and their corridor in Ghana.

The Chief of the area, Togbe Letsu VII, whose jurisdiction in Ghana extends to Togo said they see themselves beyond the imaginary boundaries as one people.

The tourists were then taken to the Kpetoe township where their arrival was heralded by a street procession by a Borborbor Cultural Troupe which led them to the Durbar ground.

The Durbar ground also showed another level of the cultural dexterity of the people of Agortime.

With the Chiefs and elders seated and waiting to welcome the team, various rites were performed to show their hospitality.

Women were sent to the river side to fetch water in bottles which they carried on their heads amidst dancing steps without the bottles falling off.

The fetched water from the River Todze was significant in welcoming visitors to the land.

The water was used to cleanse the feet of all team members as a sign of love and blessings from the people.

The Warlord Nene Akoto VII, who welcomed the team was excited about the the initiative by Citi FM and Citi TV.

He encouraged Ghanaians to promote Ghana’s culture  and heritage especially the Kente Fabric.

Indeed, the team wouldn’t have yearned for any other exciting moment when they joined the Borborbor Troupe to learn a step or two.

…In Accra: The kenkey party, the Ga song and Abokobi

Prior to moving to the Volta Region, patrons of the 3rd edition of the Heritage Caravan were treated to a kenkey party amidst some melodious Ga live band tunes ahead of the adventurous seven day road trip.

The Caravan’s first stop was the James Forte in Jamestown where they spent a considerable amount of time at the Frederiksgave museum, Sesemi Village at Abokobi  in the Ga East Municipality in Accra.

The Frederiksgave Plantation on the Akwapin Hills is a historical exhibition and cultural centre covering a part of the history of Ghana and Denmark’s cultural heritage.

In the 1830s, the Danish government, which still had financial interest in Ghana after the abolishment of slavery in the country, started tilling the plantation with 32 enslaved workers it bought.

The Frederiksgave served as a typical colonial plantation, which experimented with various crops like coffee, sugar, tobacco and wine, but  as the gains were not forthcoming, the plantation became a health resort for ill Danish public servants from Christiansborg Castle.

In 1850, when the British bought the Danish Gold Coast, the buildings were abandoned.

It was reported that the slaves were kept in dungeons in the main building at the plantation. The place was subsequently deserted, leading  to the decaying and collapse of the place.

The tropic climate and the fact that stones from the building were removed for building houses in the village of Sesemi nearby, all contributed to the abandoning of the site.

After several deliberations between Ghana and Danish, in 2005, specialists from both countries together with local villagers began excavating the overgrown site. Deep in the soil they found the foundation of the main building as well as remnants like letters, pottery, glass and clay pipes from the Danes’ time at Frederiksgave. These items are now exhibited in the main building.

On the basis of these few remnants, Frederiksgave was rebuilt and is now a museum as well as a bracing green spot with beautiful views of the stretched land into Accra.

The third edition of Heritage Caravan is sponsored by Total Card, GCB, Hunters and powered by Citi TV
