The Upper East Regional Branch of Groupe Ndoum’s (GN) Bank, has rewarded 50 of its customers to appreciate them for their loyalty to the bank.

According to the Regional Manager of the bank, George Afari, the bank, which started operations in May 2009 with eighteen locations across the region, recognized the need to reward the loyal customers for their immense contributions towards the sustainability of the bank.

Speaking at the event in the regional capital, Bolgatanga, Mr. Afari said the ceremony was necessary to afford the bank the opportunity to interact with customers to address their concerns and also introduce the GN Mobile money Pay Global services platform to customers.

“In our bid to provide innovate products and services to meet the unique needs of customers, management found it necessary create an opportunity for customers to freely express their concerns before management for redress,” he said.

Mr. Afari urged customers of the bank and the public to leverage on the Pay mobile money platform for easy local and international mobile money transfer which he said is much cheaper than the service rendered by telecom operators.

The 50 loyal customers were rewarded with citations and hampers.

The Chief Executive Officer of GN Bank, Issah Adam, said the bank was committed to achieving customer satisfaction and service by leveraging on technology and expansion of branches.

Mr. Adam assured customers of their resolve to meet the Bank of Ghana’s new minimum capital requirement of GHC400 million.

“Let me assure customers that, based on the plan GN Bank submitted to Bank of Ghana, by end of the third quarter of this year, our shareholders would have finished injecting more capital to meet the requirement.”

“Customers are dealing with a bank that is liquid and safe, so let nobody tell you that, GN Bank cannot meet the minimum capital by Bank of Ghana and don’t be afraid to invest with the bank” Mr. Adam stated.

The President and Chairman of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has stated that GN Bank will surely meet the minimum capital requirement set by the Bank of Ghana.

The BoG at a meeting with Managing Directors of commercial banks last Friday announced the increase in the minimum capital requirement from ¢120 million to ¢400 million.

Commercial banks would be given up to December 2018 to meet the new capital which represents an increase of 233 percent.

However speaking in an interview with journalists in Accra, Dr. Nduom said although he disagrees with the BoG, plans to raise the money has already begun.

“Our intent definitely is to meet that requirement and we should be able to do so. We may disagree with the Bank of Ghana on this one. But they make the rules. We will raise the funds needed. GN Bank is here to stay and make a positive difference in the lives of the people in the towns and villages our bank was set up to serve,” he noted.

He also called on other Ghanaian-owned banks to do well to meet the December 2018 deadline.

‘BoG minimum capital not good’

Dr. Nduom, said the BoG’s decision to increase the minimum capital requirement for all banks from a one hundred and twenty million Ghana cedis (GH¢120,000,000) to four hundred million Ghana cedis (GH¢400,000,000) was not a good move.

According to him, banks have different focus and target groups and as such, some make more money than others and so asking all of them to fulfill the same requirement will only lead to the collapse of some banks.

He said, “there are banks that have different purposes, different goals so to lump all the banks together and say that everybody must meet a certain minimum without regard to their business objectives or their goals or their business plan for me it is not right for a system such as what we have here in Ghana.”

According to Dr. Nduom, the Bank of Ghana can draw lessons from countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States of America where people can set up banks with as little as £10,000,000 and $5,000,000 respectively based on their objectives.

He noted there shouldn’t be efforts to force the reduction of banks in Ghana as that will not augur well for the country in the long-run.

Nkoranza, near Santasi in the Ashanti Region, was the scene of a crash involving four cars after a van belonging to the GN Bank, rammed into three others on Monday morning.

Driving the GN Bank van was a gentleman, identified as Nicholas, believed to be in his early 40s.

Nicholas, Citi News gathered, is a driver who is not believed to be mentally unstable, contrary to earlier reports.

Indications are that he may have experienced a symptom of “high fever.” According to Nicholas’ wife, Nicholas vehemently demanded his 3-month old baby from her on Monday morning as she was bathing the baby.

“I refused to give the baby to him, and I run to my neighbour. My husband is a quiet man, he is even an introvert, I don’t know what came over him this morning,” the wife said to Citi News.

Nicholas then rushed out of the house and attacked people he met on the road, including a Mobile Money Agent whose shop is situated along the road.

Residents who knew him chased after him until he picked a shovel and run to the streets.

He is said to have hit the side glass of the GN Bank van which was en route to Nkoranza from Manso Nkwanta. According to the driver of the GN Bank van, he was returning from Manso Nkwanta to fix his brakes upon realizing that it had developed a fault.

“He just met me on the road, I had put on my hazard light and was driving slowly, all I could see was this man who started breaking my passenger glass with the shovel in his hand, so as for me, I got down, because I was very much afraid,” the driver said.

Nicholas was driving the van at top speed, and at a speed ramp at Trede, he collided with three other cars. The owner of a Mercedes-Benz involved in the crash was severely injured and is receiving treatment at the Gary Marvin Hospital at Nkoranza.

Nicholas is currently in police custody.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has commissioned a branch of GN Bank at Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South West District of the Ashanti Region.

Commissioning the new branch, Dr. Nduom encouraged the people to see the bank as an indigenous bank, that is there to help the Ghanaian economy and help develop their financial capabilities.

[contextly_sidebar id=”vfdCJMk5rsIk55kpHOLXXIji9UZYZyX1″]”GN Bank is a local bank, fully owned by Ghanaians. Our intention is to use the bank to help the people of Ghana. I must also let everyone know that anyone who intends to come for loans must also plan to repay because the loans we offer are from the savings of other people, so please use the monies for profitable business that will help you repay”.

“The bank is relatively young, but we have already gone past the 270 branches, and now the largest networked bank in Ghana.  We are hoping to hit 300 branches nationwide.  We are hoping in the future to be the bank that bails out the Ghana government in times of recession and financial difficulties. We are building a strong financial institution that will rival all other banks”.

Welcoming Dr. Nduom and the bank to the town, the Chief of Mankranso, Nana Osafradu Amankwantia, thanked Dr. Nduom for remembering that the people of Mankranso also deserve a good bank.

”I was amazed at the pace of work put into the construction of the bank. Your workers are so courteous and respect customers of which I have a personal experience. I urge all to support the bank, to save their monies in the bank. It is very refreshing that a Ghanaian is ready to do business and rub shoulders with the foreign banks”

”I urge you to please consider doing business with the bank we have here. One refreshing thing about GN Bank is that, they put up their own building so it means they are going to be here for a long time” he said.

Dr. Nduom and Nana Osafradu Amankwantia joined hands to officially commission the bank, which will serve Mankranso and its neighbouring communities such as Kunsu, Pokukrom and Beposo.

In a show of appreciation, Dr. Nduom acknowledged the first customer of GN Bank, Mankranso, for having the trust and conviction in GN Bank to open an account with the new branch.

He thus thanked Mr. Akwasi Appiah, a police officer and rewarded him with a prize.
