Celebrated highlife artiste, Charles Kwadwo Fosu known in showbiz as Daddy Lumba, has sued Kwame Anokye also known in music circles as Daddy Lumba Jnr. for impersonating his brand.

Daddy Lumba filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court alleging that Kwame Anokye also known as DL Junior professes to be his son and even impersonates him to get gifts from people.

According to an entertainmentgh.com report, the complainant alleges that Anokye has a history of impersonating him since his appearance on a TV Africa-produced reality show, ‘Just Like You’ which was produced in 2010.

‘Just Like You’ was a reality TV show which gave artistes the platform to mimic their favourite celebrities. DL Junior, on that show imitated Daddy Lumba.

After the show, Kwame Anokye (DL Jnr.) who has similar looks as Daddy Lumba has been plying his trade as a musician.

The plaintiff says, since the name Daddy Lumba is exclusively associated to him within the music industry and that no one goes by that name, the defendant’s imitation and misrepresentation has affected his reputation, business and goodwill and the brand as a whole.

In an exclusive interview with DL Junior he confirmed to Citi Showbiz that he has received a writ summon from Daddy Lumba but declined to comment on the merits of the case.

He said his lawyer was handling the issue and would only pass comment after they have been to court.

In 2015, DL Junior told Flex newspaper in an interview that having a close resemblance in looks and voice to Daddy Lumba was by happenstance.

“I didn’t force myself to be like Daddy Lumba. It just occurred that I am like him. In fact, I have seen most guys try to be like Lumba but by so doing, they fake it. I am very original and I am the only one that can perform all Lumba’s songs just like him,” he had said.

He however noted that he had always admired Daddy Lumba as an artiste and considred him as his ‘dad.’

DL Junior who is known for his songs Befa Me, Efri Nea Efire and Hye Wo Ho Den, Krom Aye De, among others.

One of Ghana’s finest vocalists, eShun known in real life as Ethel Esi Eshun, has put up a stunning performance at the Odombea Festival at Saltpond in the Central Region of Ghana.

Veteran highlife artiste Rex Omar has bemoaned the quality of music produced onto the Ghanaian music market in recent times.

Speaking to Doctor Cann on Happy FM’s Showbiz Xtra, he said music producers of today are not concerned about doing quality music. They don’t spend time and money to record timeless music.

“I am not saying everybody should record live like I have done. You can do digital music and still have quality production but I can boldly say a lot of the digital productions being churned out of late are poor. They are disposable music. Their life time is short,” he told Doctor Cann.

The ‘Abiba’ hit maker also noted that there are a lot of Ghanaian rhythms that musicians and their producers can explore and utilise. He proposed that music is dynamic and that it is about time Ghanaians re-defined highlife to suit present time.

“We have to know that music like any form of culture changes. Things have changed about highlife. There can be other foreign rhythms but ones the typical highlife features are more, it still remains highlife. What I mean is that we should not be limited to only one type of chordal progression of highlife like ‘Amponsah’. That is someone’s creation. We should open up to other Ghanaian rhythms and chords,” he said.

Rex added his voice to the controversy that surrounded Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Confession’ when it was nominated in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

When asked if Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Confession’ was highlife, he explained that the fact that there are no strings in the song does not bar it from being a highlife song.

“It is a typical highlife song. You see, you need not to have the guitar strings and the ‘ka ka ka’ to know it is highlife music. Nowadays, most producers use other musical instruments to play that rhythm other than the castanet ad that is creativity,” he explained.

Rex Omar is currently the Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and has produced a lot of great hits like ‘Konka,’ ‘Obi Doba.’ ‘Who Am I,’ ‘Paapa,’ and others.

“The people should expect the best of me, the best from 1961 till now,” Paapa told Kojo in a conversation on the Citi Breakfast Show.

He also revealed that his most favourite song is the one that he did with Paulina Oduro: Tena menkyen.

“Tena menkyen is my favourite. Someone was playing the piano on the radio. It was deep in the night when I heard the progression so I wrote it down. I later got somebody’s old piano and started working on it. It was a song I liked from day one when I heard the progression. As a musician, you can take music from other places but it shouldn’t be note for note.”

The MOGO Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday [March 25, 2017] at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel. The event is sponsored by GCB Bank, Freight Consult and Nallem Consult.

EL who was not announced as a guest performer stormed the stage and got the crowd on their feet with excitement and applause.

Performing alongside ‘Ice cream girl’ hitmaker, Joey B, he commanded a lot of participation from the audience.

The duo, performed various hits including, ‘Kaa bu ame’, ’89’, ‘Cigarette’ and ‘Wow’.

We’ll choreographed and exceptionally delivered, EL and Joey B for the entire 30 minutes they spent on stage stopped at nothing to give their chanting fans at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) nothing but the best, at least nothing less than they’ve been known for on Ghana’s music landscape.

joey-b-and-el-6

The collaboration between the two will certainly be rated among the best acts put up on the night.
