Subscribers of DStv can now watch their favourite DStv channels on their phones on the DStv Now App.

This, according to Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager of MultiChoice Ghana, is to make their services more accessible to their customers.

“Our mission is to deliver value to our customers by making great entertainment more accessible and affordable,” he stated.

DStv Now is a value-added service from MultiChoice Ghana that allows DStv subscribers to stream live TV via the App on their desktops, laptops, smartphones or tablets.

Unlike the earlier DStv Mobile service which required subscribers to purchase the handheld Walka device, DStv Now requires a good internet connection and one can view DStv shows on the chosen device.

Mr. Sunkwa Mills has explained that MultiChoice is always finding and developing products and services to meet the needs of their customers anytime, anywhere and in the most convenient manner.

“Whether it’s local telenovelas, the excitement of world class sport or the latest global blockbusters, our investment in leading-edge content and technology systems deliver the shows that people love into their hands through this innovative service DStv Now. With DStv Now, bad weather and power cuts interrupting your viewing experience will be a thing of the past as you watch on your device of choice,” he further noted.

The DStv Now App is available for free download at the google play store or App store. With an active DStv subscription one would have to complete the registration in the App and then link up to four devices to their accounts at no additional monthly cost.

What you need to Use DStv Now

  1. An active DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family of Access package
  2. An Internet enabled PC, Mac, Android or IOS phone or tablet
  3. DStv Now App for Android or iOS.
  4. A DStv Connect ID (easy to register, requires your smart card number)
  5. An Internet Connection (Broadband connection like Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G LTE)
  6. A Data Plan (Preferably an unlimited Data plan)

With DStv Now you can watch live TV on up to four devices, though only two can be active simultaneously at a time. Besides the watching live TV, catching up on shows you have missed the App has other features beneficial to every subscriber.

Watch Live TV

On the live TV section of the App, you will find all the channels that are available on your package and the current shows airing. The channels are categorised for easy navigation into Sports, General Entertainment, News & Commerce, Music, Documentary, Children, Lifestyle & Culture, and Religion.

Catch up

This feature keeps a catalog of the most popular shows and series on DStv and saves them for you to watch at a convenient time as it is a Video on Demand service. You may either stream the episode or download it so that you can watch offline later.

Parental Control

There is plenty to watch on Live TV and Catch up for kids on the App and parents or guardians can restrict what content their children can have access to by setting up a PIN. With this, your kids are protected from exposure to inappropriate content.

Full TV Guide

DStv Now comes with an 8-day Programme Guide. On the TV Guide, you can watch a programme live if it is currently airing live. You can also set a reminder if the programme is upcoming.

How to Save Data on DSTV Now

Using DSTV Now involves streaming or downloading of videos which means data is being consumed. For example, watching videos in HD can consume up to 2GB for just an hour of viewing. However, you can switch the Apps settings to reduce the quality or resolution of the video to save data.

To Save Data on DSTV Now with lower video quality

  1. Go to the DSTV Now Menu
  2. Tap on Settings
  3. Tap on Maximum Video Quality
  4. Set the required video quality. Options: Highest, High, Medium, Low

With the FIFA World Cup around the corner you will not miss a single match as we would be streaming all the 64 games live on DStv Now. You can access DStv Now in all countries within sub Saharan Africa where there is a MultiChoice operation.

DStv customers are in for a massive treat as SuperSport launches a pop-up channel ahead of the “Money Fight” between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Channel 213 will be available to all DStv customers from Premium to Access and will go live on Saturday (August 19) and broadcast daily from 5pm to 1am until the eve of the fight on August 27.

DStv channel 213 will have an amazing schedule with re-runs of several of Mayweather’s great fights, his visit to Africa in 2014 and the popular All Access shows, which offer a fly-on-the-wall viewing experience.

Loud clothes, piles of cash, fast cars and trash-talking. It’s all there in a fascinating package of boxing and bluster that will fill the pop-up channel dedicated to next weekend’s “Money Fight”.  Despite its unusual nature, the fight has attracted international attention with fans and media alike drawn to the radiant personalities of both contestants.

Cecil Sunkwa Mills General manager, Multichoice Ghana, said “This is another value-added service which is testimony to our commitment to put our customers at the heart of everything we do.  As such we are making continued improvements and adding more value for our DStv customers.

“This follows closely on the back of our latest move to provide DStv Family customers with all the La Liga games as well as a selected number of great international and local channels.  Our mission is to continuously add value and enrich our customers’ DStv experience and we believe that this channel will offer great entertainment to them.”

SuperSport will cross to Las Vegas at 11pm on August 27 for the action-packed undercard with the main bout expected to start after 3am. Big fight fans can watch on their decoders on DStv Premium or on their smartphones, tablets, laptops and PCs on DStv Now online or on the app, or on the SuperSport app.

Highlights of the fight will be available on DStv Catch Up in the hours after the event – this will be on your decoder, or via DStv Now. DStv Catch Up Plus, available on connected Exploras, and Catch Up on DStv Now, will carry the full fight later in the day.

Non-DStv customers will be able to watch the fight on the internet TV service Showmax later in the day.

SuperSport is bringing Floyd Mayweather jnr versus Conor McGregor the richest, most-hyped and over-the-top boxing fight in history exclusively to viewers in Ghana and across Africa!

‘The Money Fight’ will be broadcast only on DStv and will air live and in glorious HD on SuperSport 2 and Maximo 1 in the early hours of Sunday, August 27.

DStv Premium customers will be treated to a ringside view when SuperSport crosses to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas at 1 am (GMT) for the action-packed undercard, with the main bout expected to start after 3 am.

“Unlike in the US where the fight will be available on pay-per-view in HD for $99.95, DStv customers will enjoy the event as part of the DStv Premium offering, at no extra cost” says Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, MultiChoice Ghana.

In keeping with the tradition of showcasing super-fights, from Marvin Hagler versus Tommy Hearns and Mike Tyson versus Michael Spinks to Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao, SuperSport has been in the forefront of delivering the most-anticipated events in the world of sports.

“This has been at the top of our list ever since the fight was announced,” said Gideon Khobane, chief executive of SuperSport. “People continue to talk of the great fights we brought to viewers in the 1980s and beyond. But this is more than a fight, it’s a mega-event with layers of controversy, excitement, and intrigue. We’ll also be putting together great background programming for our valued DStv customers around the fight.”

Billed as “The Money Fight”, the contest has drawn as much praise as it has criticism for the nature of the match-up: boxing’s most celebrated fighter of the last decade against Mixed Martial Arts’ most resplendent star who has yet to engage in a professional boxing fight.

Big fight fans can watch via their decoders or on DStv Now, online or the app.

Non-DStv customers will be able to watch the fight on the internet TV service Showmax via Vodafone later in the day. By subscribing to the entertainment bundle at a minimal charge you can access Showmax for unlimited viewing of more than 25 000 TV show episodes, movies, kids shows, and documentaries.

Showmax can be viewed on smartphones and tablets, smart TVs, Apple TV and Android TV, and via web browser. To sign up for Showmax visit www.showmax.com.

Highlights of the fight will also be available on DStv’s Catch Up service in the hours after the event while Catch Up Plus, available on connected Exploras, will carry the full fight later in the day.

SuperSport has acquired pay TV media rights in Sub-Saharan Africa for the next two Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games.

This renewed partnership with the International Olympic Committee will take in the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and the Olympic Games in 2024 in a city yet to be selected.

The announcement follows the completion of a competitive tender in the region.

SuperSport will also work with the IOC to support the development of the Olympic Channel, including the production of localised content and linear distribution across the region.

IOC President Thomas Bach said: “We are delighted to be working with DStv SuperSport to be able to bring Olympic fans more coverage than ever before. I have visited many countries across Africa and have witnessed first-hand the important role that sport and the Olympic Games play on the African continent.

The IOC redistributes 90 per cent of the revenue derived from its commercial agreements to support the development of sport around the world, including in Africa.”

Said Gideon Khobane, chief executive of SuperSport: “As long-time partners of the International Olympic Committee, SuperSport is delighted to have secured these excellent Olympic rights.

The Games produce consistently good ratings, no doubt because of the non-stop drama and action that make for compelling viewing. We look forward to putting together a multi-platform, multi-channel offering that will reflect the Olympics in their full glory.”

According to Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, MultiChoice Ghana “athletics fans in Ghana are assured uninterrupted coverage of all the action live from China and Tokyo in HD quality pictures only on DStv.”

Coupled with this announcement is the massive reduction in prices for our HD Zapper decoder. He explained that as a customer centric organization, this reduction will be making great entertainment more accessible and affordable at the new decoder price of Ghs149.”

The Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has touted government’s achievement in attaining a 100 percent digital migration in the country.

According to him, the migration process is almost completed, adding that, it will give Ghanaians the opportunity to experience better picture and sound quality as well as more channels to watch.

Government few years ago commenced the process to switch television broadcasting platforms from analogue transmission to digital, but has postponed the deadline several times.

Speaking at the Meet the Press session in Accra on Monday, Omane Boamah, said government will distribute one million set up boxes nationwide after the migration is completed.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FyaHtKa1X9NTKtVABNLcuQ7vuAIP9DIS”]“Ghana’s quest to migrate from analogue television broadcasting to digital is in its final stage of construction and we are finalizing processes to support our universal access obligation efforts by distributing one million set up boxes. This is because every citizen is entitled to the better picture, sound quality and interactivity that digital television broadcasting provides.”

“Simply put, President Mahama’s government is bringing DSTV, apologies to their competitors, to your home, irrespective of your social and economic background,” he added.

Omane Boamah also used the opportunity to highlight on some government achievements in education, health, transportation, security, agriculture among others.

He further rejected claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has collapsed.

According to him, the scheme has improved tremendously due to massive investments by government into the sector.
