A member of the management team, Abeiku Santana, said this on Eyewitness News while commenting on the tragic death of the starlet who passed away in a gory accident while returning to Accra from Sunyani after visiting her mother who had just returned from the UK.

Ebony was travelling with three other people, two of whom have also been confirmed dead .

Driver, military officer not known

Asked whether the three other individuals involved in the accident were known by the management team, Abeiku Santana said: “I do not know any driver, the car doesn’t belong to her …but I know the other lady who is a friend and a member of the team as well. I do not even know the military officer as well.”

Santana pointed out that, the incident came on the back of discussions by the management team to get the budding artiste a personal vehicle.

“As far as I know as a member of the team, about two days ago, Bullet of ‘Rough and Smooth fame discussed with me a proposal that Ebony had brought to get her a car which we were considering.”

‘Hiplife Artiste of the year’

Tributes have been pouring in for the late artiste who according to Abeiku and Bice Osei Kufuor, was being tipped for Hiplife Artiste of the year.

“Her name came up in the 2017 VGMA strongly as the fierce contender for the artiste of the year, so we had to meet the requirements for that category so quickly myself and Bullet came together to draw a plan. Just one week, we did two events. One was the corporate launch at Golden Tulips on the 9th of December, then on the 11th of December we did another concert at West Hills Mall. These were strategies that we had to put in place, in case her name comes up for Artiste of the year,” Abieku recalled.

Ebony, according to Abeiku, was also expected to collaborate with Daddy Lumba and Shatta Wale this year [2018] in separate songs.

“I remember negotiating with Daddy Lumba to do remix of Poison and we remember also talking to Shatta Wale to do a collaboration with her and we brought new artistes to feature Ebony on Maame Hwe.”

“The strategy was to get attention and minds of Ghanaians as the strongest female artiste in Ghana which I’ll say by the grace of God within the short period or the short span that we worked with her, we achieved that. There was a serious strategy and a strong team behind her” he noted.

Heap of sand ’caused’ fatal crash 

In the latest development, the Police Service has pointed out circumstances under which the accident occurred.

According to the Service, “on reaching a section of the road between Nyamebekyere and Nsuta, there was a heap of sand in the lane of the Jeep which was being used for the road maintenance, and the driver in trying to avoid running into the sand, swerved onto the opposite lane and grazed the nearside portion of the bus and plunged into the railings at the edge of the road, killing the three other occupants identified as Francisca Nkansah Kuri aged 27 years, Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng [Ebony], and Lance Corporal Vondee Francis Atsu, aged 29 years.”

The 29-year-old died at the 37 Military Hospital on Sunday evening after a fatal motor accident on the Accra-Tema motorway.

A statement issued by the artiste’s management on Sunday said,

“We are shocked and in total state of sorrow. We met with Vybrant and some of his family members on Sunday afternoon around 3pm and had a rather good discussion. Few hours after their departure we had a telephone call that Vybrant Faya had been admitted at the 37 Military Hospital after being involved in an accident…a team from SMF was quickly dispatched to the hospital only to be told that our brother has passed on.”

It added that “We are grief-stricken and cannot hold back our tears. Our deep condolences to the family. Family of Vybrant Faya is yet to release official statement on the issue.  May Allah find a peaceful place for you brother till we meet.”

Born Emmanuel Kojo Quayeson, Vybrant Faya shot the limelight after releasing a hit single, “Mampi” over the Shatta Movement Family record label in 2014.

The song capitalizes on the personality of the leaders of both parties to ask Ghanaians to promote and ensure peace before, during and after this year’s polls.

He likened the relationship between President John Mahama of the NDC and the NPP’s Nana Akuffo-Addo to that of himself and fellow artiste Samini saying, “don’t waste your time to fight [over them]”.

In a line of the song he urged Ghanaians to take their destiny into their own hands and not depend on politicians to change their economic fortunes.

Shatta Wale has been described by some industry players as a success of Ghanaian music this political season because he is the only artiste whose songs are being used by both parties.

The two major political parties, the NDC and the NPP use his songs, “Mahama paper” and “Kakai” respectively on their various campaign platforms.

‘I’m a big fan of Shatta Wale – Akufo-Addo’

The 2016 Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, earlier this month revealed that he is a big fan of Shatta Wale.

Shatta Wale had earlier that the day tweeted that he never knew the Flagbearer was a great fan after he heard one of his hit songs, “Kakai” at the latter’s manifesto launch.

Akufo-Addo in a rely to the tweet replied, “Yes, I’m a big fan”.

Mahama paper song “lovely”

President John Mahama while in Tamale in August 2016 described as “lovely”, dancehall artiste Shatta Wale’s hit song titled “Mahama Paper.”

In an interview with state-owned Radio Savannah in Tamale, he said he liked the song and when he enquired about its meaning, he was told; “Mahama Paper is our currency; the cedi and that all of us [should] spend it and that we must protect it.”

‘I will not endorse any political party’

The artiste had earlier served notice that he will not endorse any political party ahead of this year’s general elections in December.

According to him, he is ready to perform to entertain his fans but not openly endorse any party as other artistes in the country have done.
