Minister for Business Development, Awal Ibrahim, says government is teaming up with academia to contribute their quota to the growth of businesses in the country.

According to him, government is dedicated to developing businesses and making the business environment competitive, by making sure there is adequate information on various businesses.

Speaking at the opening of the 2017 executive doctoral research conference on the theme applying evidence-based research to effective management in Accra, Mr. Ibrahim said government believes academia is a strong back bone to businesses.

“Government cannot take decisions on whims, but any decision must be based on evidence, therefore we think academia collaborating with industry and businesses would give them the fact and figures.”

He said SMEs face lots of problems, and some of these problems are lack of credible information that would help them grow, adding that the business development ministry is working towards assisting them.

Founding President and Executive Dean of Nobel International Business School (NIBS), Prof. Kwaku Atuahene Gima, stated that lack of evidence is one major factor hampering gains being made by the contemporary managers.

He said “the starting point for evidence based management is that management decision should be based on a combination of critical thinking, and the best available evidence. And by evidence, we mean information, facts or data supporting a claim assumption or hypothesis. Evidence may come from scientific research, but internal business information and even professional experience can count as evidence.”

Government has promised to give low-interest rate loans to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, considered as the engine of the country’s financial setup.

This is to usher in a new golden age for private sector-led economic transformation in line with the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign promise.

[contextly_sidebar id=”sgaL4noy2f791gB60zHWT499whIZ8jQ6″]Minister for Business Development, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, brought this to the fore at a meeting with some business executives in Tamale.

He reiterated government’s pledge to strengthen Private-Public-Partnership to secure industrial transformation. He thus advised local entrepreneurs to form or join existing cooperative unions to acquire the loans.

“Each region will have its fair share, but I need to advice our businessmen and women here to put your house in order. Grow your skills and grow your capacity so that government can support you to ensure that the high unemployment rate in this country is reduced.”

Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Awal reaffirmed government’s plan to establish huge industries to reduce the nation’s high rate of unemployment.

“The President’s vision is to make sure that Ghanaian businesses thrive. They need to expand and can withstand global competition, and that is why I have come around to see the businesses we have in this part of the country so that together with other ministries and agencies, we can fashion out policies and initiatives to strengthen their capacity and to make them competitive.”

“We are looking at all the businesses, and we are to make sure that within our first four years in office Ghanaian businesses should not only be very effective, but they should be competitive enough to get foreign markets,” Alhaji Awal underscored.

The Business Development Minister said government would place premium on the agriculture sector; which is the economic mainstay of most rural dwellers.

“Agriculture features prominently in the President’s policy initiatives, and much attention will be paid to that sector as to other sectors of the economy.”

He realized that bicycle, motorcycle and lorry tyres were on high demand in the north, and promised to establish a factory to start producing such products.

Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Awal embarked on a two-day working visit to the Northern Region where he paid courtesy calls on some traditional rulers, the clergy and interacted with a cross section of the youth.

He also called for peaceful co-existence in the Northern Region to attract investors. As a business mogul, the former Managing Director of Graphic Company Limited hails from Kumbungu district in the Northern Region.

M.anifest’s song Someway Bi went viral days after its release. The song, off his Apae album, trended on social media sites Facebook and Twitter and has enjoyed massive airplay since its release.

Following the success of the audio release, the rapper went ahead to release an awesome video which also trended for days on Twitter. The Someway Bi video has been watched over thirty three thousand (33000) times on YouTube.

According to M.anifest, his success is because he does songs that people can relate to. He also explains that his success is also due to the fact that his team has effectively used social media to market his brand and music.

“Social media has played an important role in my career and in the dissemination of my music so far. If you do music that is not trendy or non-traditional, you have to also use a non-traditional or non-trendy way to promote it,” he said, in an interview on Citi Trendz.

He explained further that “social media is not dependent on PAYOLAit’s not dependent on whether you have connections or not, it’s dependent on whether people like your stuff and how you are at mobilizing the people who are online. So for me it’s always played a role because it cuts out the middle man and I’m able to go directly to the people.”
