About 200 BECE candidates who were unable to write the English and Religious and Moral Education papers during this year’s examination period will be placed in various Senior High Schools to further their education.

[contextly_sidebar id=”hFBbMtfaEbY4ewmNik5Tx5zpQPc2MoyD”]The Head of Public Affairs of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, said the decision was taken after an agreement with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Agnes Teyi-Cudjoe told Citi News that the candidates will be placed based on their results from the papers they took.

Earlier, the Council the said the candidates would have to re-site the two papers in 2018. The suggestion was met with fierce opposition from various quarters including a Child’s Right advocacy group, Child Rights International (CRI) which took legal action against WAEC.

The court is yet to take a decision on the matter but WAEC says despite the decision to place the students in some SHSs, they would be given the opportunity to re-sit the two papers in February next year.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), says it will release the rest of the Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) results, by the end of this week.

The national examination body released the results of over four hundred thousand BECE candidates last week, with others outstanding. But according to the Public Relations Officer of WAEC, Agnes Tei Cudjoe, the decision to release the rest of the results is to help facilitate the process of posting of candidates for their Senior High Schools.

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), requires the full complement of the results to commence their postings into the various Senior High Schools.

Results released

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), last Wednesday released the provisional results for the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

A statement issued by WAEC said 188 candidates had their results cancelled. It added that 22 of them had their results cancelled entirely for bringing mobile phones into the examination room.

Leakages

The West African Examination Council (WAEC), said it did not record any incident of examination malpractice in this year’s BECE.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has released provisional results for the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

A statement from the council outlined that, 460, 930 candidates from 14,267 schools sat for the examination. This number of candidates marks a 5.2 percent rise in the 2015 figures.

[contextly_sidebar id=”8FGImos15a8oey19EhK667ayus9nslZd”]Malpractices

188 candidates had their results cancelled, 22 of them entirely for bringing mobile phones into the examination room, and receiving external assistance, according to the statement.

The statement also noted that, individual candidates from 1,025 schools were identified to have cheated, via the Item Differentia Profile (IDP) software, and they had their relevant subjects cancelled.

The IDP software was introduced by the Council to curb cheating in objective tests.

No leaks

The 2016 BECE passed without the near-annual occurrence of leaked examination papers ahead of the sittings. The 2015 BECE saw the leaks of some of the examination papers leading to the cancellation of five papers.

In an effort to curb the leaks, the Council decided to start flying examination question papers to examination centres.

The absence of leaks in 2016 notwithstanding, WAEC has said the entire results of candidates from 321 schools have also been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations  into alleged malpractices.

In the meantime, candidates can check their results online at WAEC’s website: www.waecgh.org.

The council has said it is in the process of dispatching the results to the various schools.
