Austria’s conservative People’s Party (ÖVP), led by 31-year-old Sebastian Kurz, is set to win the country’s general election, projections suggest.

The victory would make Mr Kurz the world’s youngest national leader.

The People’s Party was set to win 31.5%, followed by the Social Democrats with 27.1% and the far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ) with 25.9%.

Short of a majority, Mr Kurz’s party could seek an alliance with the FPÖ, which campaigned against immigration.

Who is Sebastian Kurz?

Before the election, Mr Kurz served as Europe’s youngest-ever foreign minister, after he was appointed in 2013 aged just 27.

In May 2017 he became the leader of the ÖVP. He began his political career in the youth wing of the party, which he chaired before moving on to serve on Vienna’s city council.

Nicknamed “Wunderwuzzi” (roughly translated – someone who can walk on water), he has been compared to the young leaders of France and Canada, Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau.

Much like Mr Macron, Mr Kurz has created a movement around himself, rebranding the ÖVP – which has been in power for more than 30 years – as “The New People’s Party”.

The Black Satellites were held to a goalless draw by their Gabonese counterparts at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in the first leg of the 2015 African Youth Championship qualifiers on Sunday.

The first half which was fairly balanced ended with both sides failing to find the back of the net.

The Black Satellites lacked cohesion throughout the game and couldn’t get the rhythm they needed because there was a lot of individual play.

Despite the decision of Oti Akenten, the Technical Director of the GFA to walk into the dressing room to help Selas Tetteh give pep talks to the Satellites boys during the half time break, the score line remained the same in the second half of the game.

Ghana wasted all the goal scoring opportunities they created with Samuel Afful being the worst culprit. The way team was relaxed and their goalkeeper Menene Mekosso resorted to a lot of antics to delay play during the closing minutes of the game.

The home fans, who were impressed with the performance of the Gabonese applauded them in the course of the second half.

The Black Satellites will travel to Libreville in two weeks time to face Gabon in the return encounter.

Gabon qualified to this stage after earning a goalless draw in Kigali against Rwanda before beating their opponent 1-0 at home in the return leg, while Ghana got a walk over before reaching this stage.

The winner of the two-leg third round qualifier will advance to the finals to be staged by Senegal.

Seven winners will join hosts, Senegal for the Championship slated for 8-22 March 2015.

Starting line-up: Mutawakilu Seidu, Owusu Bempah, Patrick Asmah, Steven Anokye Badu, Joseph Adjei, Latif Abubakar, Thomas Agyapong, Yaw Yeboah, Samuel Afful, Samuel Tetteh, Prosper Kasim

Ghana’s under 20 male team have gone past Sierra Leone to the next stage of African Youth Championship qualifiers.

The Ghanaians, at home, battled from behind to beat Sierra Leone 2-1 in the northern city of Tamale.

The win is a massive shot in the arm for Ghana’s quest to get into the next African Youth Championships in 2015. The aggregate score was 4-1.

Sierra Leone’s early goal to silence the home crowd came from Ibrahim Konte after 29 minutes.

Ghana rallied to score twice from Thomas Agyepong and Latif Abubakari to get coach Sellas Tetteh a step closer to another championship berth.
