The triple travel trivia promotion closed at the weekend with a keenly-contested game of wits which ended with an all-male haul for the three slots of all-expense-paid trips to international holiday destinations.

Shoppers Jacob Acquah, a staff of the Mechanical Workshop (Cinema Section) of the Ministry of Information, Kingsley Kusi Asomah, an aluminium technician at Kenab Glazing Limited and an unemployed youngster, Sylvester Siaw Ansah, shrugged off stiff opposition from fellow shoppers to emerge respective winners of the coveted holiday tickets.

The ‘Triple Travel Trivia’ campaign was launched by Accra’s leading malls, West Hills Mall, Achimota Mall and Accra Mall on February 5 to infuse some excitement into the shopping experience at the malls and reward shoppers for their loyalty.

The trivia was open to the respective patrons of the three malls who shopped to the tune of Ghc 300.00 during the promo period. But to grab the slot for the vacation abroad, qualified shoppers from each of the malls had to slug it out with nine other finalists.

In the final trivia which took place at the weekend, 30 finalists chased tickets for lush holiday destinations in Dubai, Mauritius and Cape Town. The ultimate prize comprised roundtrip tickets for the winners as well as their partners, accommodation and destination tours and spending money of US$2,000 per winner for a stay of five days and four nights at the destination.

Jacob Acquah, a West Hills Mall shopper and winner of the ticket for the holiday in Dubai heaved a huge sigh of relief after moderator, Trigmatic, announced the final score in his favour. He had just survived a hot chase by the only female contestant, Davida Kenny.

“I shop here all the time; two years ago, I narrowly missed winning a car. I was not as lucky as I am today and I had to contend with top-up credits.  Today, I am the winner!’’ an emotional Acquah said as he clutched on to his dummy ticket and waved at the audience.

He said he would travel to Dubai with his wife, Gloria, but he could not determine exactly when they would travel because his wife is still nursing their little baby.

At Achimota Mall, an overjoyed Kingsley Kusi Asomah, 33, said after he was declared winner, that he would travel to Cape Town with his wife, Beatrice, in June.

“This is a clear act of God. I have never travelled abroad in my life; my wife goes on leave in June so we will both fly to Cape Town and enjoy the fun together,” he said.

Accra Mall’s winner, 24-year-old Sylvester Siaw Ansah, single and unemployed said he’s in a fix as to who to take with him on his vacation to Mauritius.

“I’m still thinking…I am single. I wanted to go with my mom but she’ll be working so I will have to take a decision on who to go to Mauritius with,” he said.

All three winners have up until December 2018 to take their vacations.

In a congratulatory message to the winners, Jonathan Lotter, Asset Manager for AttAfrica Ghana Portfolio told the press later that he was happy with the level of interest shown in the promotion by respective customers and patrons of the three malls.

Lotter said West Hills Mall, Achimota Mall and Accra Mall highly cherished the patronage and loyalty of their respective shoppers and reminded all patrons that the essence of such generous promotions is to underscore the premium we place on customers as valuable stakeholders.

“For your preference of our malls and your loyalty, you can be sure that the managements of West Hills Mall, Achimota Retail Centre and Accra Mall will continue to cater for your comfort and convenience at our centres and spice up your shopping experiences with such high-value promotions,” he said.

After a busy month in which shoppers and revelers were dazzled with fun games, musical shows and heavy discounts, Achimota Retail Centre has announced it is closing the year with a string of enchanting entertainment gigs while it continues to offer customers rock-bottom seasonal shopping deals.

During the past one month, patrons of Achimota Mall have been blessed with a series of loyalty promotions and exciting fun games in a rare shopping ambience spiced up by one rousing entertainment show after the other.

Mall management announced today that Achimota is stepping up the tempo with an intriguing line up of shows and concerts, some of which will call big stars and celebrities like MzVee, KiDi and Kuame Eugene into action.

On Friday December 22, Achimota mall will be the venue for the highly fancied ‘Sky Girls Concert’ – a star-studded musical concert targeting teen girls of 13 years and above and structured to empower especially young ladies from Senior High Schools.

‘Sky Girls is an anti-tobacco initiative championed by Good Business UK and is a project fully funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This concert is more like an end-of-year party for teenaged girls. Besides the musical performances, the bill includes variety fun activities and refreshment for the audience,’ Mr. Anthony Asamoah, Achimota Retail Centre’s Marketing Manager told to reporters.

However, it does appear that Achimota mall’s most highly anticipated attraction, ahead of Christmas, is the ‘Heritage Fashion Show’ slated for December 23.
The Heritage Fashion show is the brainchild of Javon Effects Limited and has been put together to inspire mass appeal and appreciation among Ghanaians for local Ghanaian fashion as reflected in Ghanaian fabrics, creative designs, accessories and craft.

Said Mr. Asamoah: ‘This fashion show is unlike any other you might have seen elsewhere. The runway will showcase the most ingenious application and adaptation of our local prints, craft and traditional fashion accessories in a way that would win over every fashion aficionado.’

The marketing manager said the show will feature as many as seven models who will do up creations by six celebrated fashion designers in an electrifying ambience invoked by performances from Dancehall artiste Tsooboi, Josh Black, Nii Ashaley, and the acoustic maestro, Ebo Yankful.

He disclosed that the main highlight of entertainment at Achimota Mall on Christmas day itself will be the ‘Aseda Fest’ – a marathon musical concert of praise and thanksgiving to God for his kindness and faithfulness throughout the year. About eight gospel music performers, including Beckie Ray, John Edem, Celestine Donkor and Akesse Brempong, are billed to mount the stage.

He said the ‘Aseda Fest’ Concert is a fundraiser in which spot offering and gifts from the show would be donated to the Reverend John Special School in Winneba and other deprived communities.

Achimota Retail Centre (ARC), the pride of shoppers in the Accra West Municipality, is warming up to a high-pitched celebration of its second anniversary in less than 10 days.

Located at Dome, near the St. John’s Grammar School on the Accra-Nsawam highway, Achimota Mall, as patrons prefer to call it, opened for business on October 29, 2016.

Two years on, the mall remains Accra’s latest and most hospitable one-stop retail shopping centre, serving patrons of a diverse mix of income categories from almost a dozen adjoining communities in the south-eastern quarter of the capital, including Dome, Tantra Hills, New Achimota, Kwabenya and Ashongman Estates.

An extensive programme of fun activities, games and promos have been lined up to commemorate the second anniversary of the mall, but according to Centre Management, the most thrilling would be a special party for all October-born shoppers in Accra.

“Having opened for business in the month of October, we intend to celebrate the Centre’s birthday with all October-born patrons and shoppers from all parts of Accra. We have lined up a programme of variety entertainment for all patrons, visitors and our tenants and we will be giving away some gifts and parcels to October-born shoppers,” ARC Marketing Manager Anthony Asamoah told newsmen.

The festive ambience will be set by popular DJ music throughout the day, followed by a special musical request show and a competitive singing and dancing challenge episode in the evening with handsome prizes for winners, the Marketing Manager disclosed.

He said Achimota Mall started warming to the celebration a month ago as throughout September, shoppers were treated to a series of fun games and rewarded with surprising gift offers.

“The past few weeks have been full of fun and excitement for our customers and visitors. We kick-started the month of September with a sidewalk sale, followed by the introduction of a loyalty discount club for regular shoppers and then with our ever-growing youthful clientele in mind, we launched a popular video gaming tournament,” said Asamoah.

“So, we’re all set for another fun-filled birthday celebration and we expect that our customers and patrons and of course all October-born residents of Accra would seize the opportunity of sharing this memorable milestone with us,” said Asamoah.

He said shoppers who get to spend a minimum of Ghc500 on the birthday will stand the chance of winning prizes ranging from Bluetooth speakers, Selfie Sticks, steam irons to electric kettles and more.

Achimota mall is anchored by the popular food store, Shoprite and the giant domestic ware retailer, Palace and offers customers and patrons an extensive mix of goods and services delivered by both international and Ghanaian brands like Nallem, MRP, JET, Second Cup, CompuGhana, Unique Aroma, KFC, Chop Bar, First Choice Fashion saloon and ARA Children’s Play World.

The Centre’s 585 capacity car park – 250 of which are located in an undercover basement – is not only the biggest, but also the most secured and most convenient car parking space in the entire south-eastern sector of Accra.

The United States clinched an extraordinary, heart-stopping, last-ditch triumph over Ghana on Monday to give its World Cup campaign a magnificent start.

John Brooks was the unlikely hero with an 86th-minute header that proved to be the winning goal in a contest where the U.S. was forced to defend for long periods under sustained pressure from the Ghanians.

It was thrilling and emotional and may have taken a physical toll on the players, but the Americans now sit with a genuine chance of progressing from Group G, the most difficult of all the World Cup pools.

Brooks, a towering 21-year-old defender who was only on the field because of an injury to Matt Besler, got his head to a perfect Graham Zusi corner to secure victory just when the U.S. was starting to lose hope.

Clint Dempsey had given the U.S. a dream start firing in the opening goal after just 31 seconds, the fifth fastest goal in tournament history, courtesy of a brilliant twisting run through the Ghana defense.

But the African side, which knocked the U.S. out of the last two World Cups, bounced back strongly and had countless chances to equalize. Ghana eventually did so with eight minutes left when Andre Ayew ran onto a backheel from Asamoah Gyan and flicked the ball into the net.

At that stage, with Jurgen Klinsmann’s side looking almost totally spent, a heartbreaking defeat was entirely possible. But somehow from somewhere, and in a fashion nearly as dramatic as Landon Donovan’s strike against Algeria at the 2010 World Cup, the team pulled out three priceless points.

Zusi was a replacement himself and kept his nerve when the team won a late corner, curling it directly onto the head of Brooks, who Ghana somehow forgot to mark.

Things do not get any easier, but the Americans can now see real light ahead. Up next is Portugal on Sunday in Manaus, where the U.S. will likely be without injured forward Jozy Altidore. However, they now have a three-point lead on the Portuguese, who were thrashed 4-0 by Germany, and have a shot at reaching the last 16.
