The legal team for former Attorney General (AG), Betty Mould Iddrisu has described as “baseless,” calls for her to be arrested in connection with the Alfred Woyome GHC51 million judgment debt case.

Following the acquittal and discharge of Mr. Woyome by an Accra High court, there have been calls for Betty Mould, the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ebo Barton Oduro and a few others to be arrested and prosecuted for their alleged involvement in the payment of the money to Mr. Woyome.

Although the Supreme Court had early on ordered Woyome to refund the money, the state charged him with causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense.

Before giving his judgment on the case, presiding Judge, Justice Ajet-Nasam questioned why the state prosecutors failed to call in key witnesses to testify.

This, according to many including ex-President John Rawlings believe contributed to the state losing the case.

Anti-corruption crusader, Sydney Casely-Hayford has said Woyome was not the true culprit in the criminal case brought against him by the state.

“I think the right persons who should have been charged in all of this was Betty Mould, Barton Oduro, all the other affiliates…they were the true culprits in all of this,” he said.

Speaking to Citi News however, Counsel for Mrs. Mould Iddrisu, Nana Ato Dadzie said her client has committed no crime to warrant her arrest.

He maintained that “the call for the arrest of Betty is baseless because she has committed no crime.”

Ato Dadzie has advised Mrs Mould Iddrisu not to comment on the current judgment since the Attorney General’s Department has appealed the ruling.

“This is a democracy; everybody can have a say – both lawyers and non-lawyers, people who have read the judgment, people who have not read the judgment, people who understand law, people who do not understand law, knowledgeable lawyers and lawyers who are even deliberately distorting facts and the law – they are all making their comments,” he remarked.
