The Minister of Interior, Mark Woyongo has sought to calm Ghanaians over the cell break that occurred at the Denu Police station in the Volta Region.

On Friday, seven suspected criminals escaped from a cell in the Denu Police Station and made away with two Police rifles.

[contextly_sidebar id=”hRn1RMDaZb0sq5OKlwomxLP0fg50lI4N”]The incident has created fear and panic in the area.

However the Minister of Interior, Mark Woyongo believes the Police are capable of unraveling the circumstances leading to the escape of the suspected criminals.

He told Citi News that  Ghana rarely records such incidents and further appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm as investigations into the case continue.

“For a very long time we have not had any Police cell break and for a very long time we have not had any attempted prison break. These are two isolated cases and I don’t think there should be any cause for alarm. The security agencies are on top of the situation,” he remarked.

In a related development, the Denu Divisional Police Command has announced a GHC 1,000  reward for anyone who offers information that will lead to the arrest of the seven criminals.

The Denu Divisional commander who revealed this to TV3 news also revealed that the Police “mobilized officers from other divisions to augment” their strength.

He said there are “about 80 officers and with the presence of the regional police commander”, they “combed dilapidated buildings to see if they’re hiding the weapons”

He said though earlier attempts to arrest the culprits proved fruitless, they are “still in the process.”

“We are appealing to the public who have information on them to assist us to recapture them. They pose a security threat to everyone in the society including we the officers.”
