Parent company of Tigo Ghana, Millicom has appointed Roshi Motman as new boss for Tigo Ghana.
Roshi Motman takes over from Adil El Youssefi who resigned this month to take up the position of MD of Airtel Kenya.
Roshi Motman’s appointment takes effect from tomorrow 1st April, 2014.
Roshi Motman becomes the first woman to be appointed as MD of a telecom company in Ghana.
Industry players are expected to keep an eye on Roshi Motman especially at a time when Tigo is struggling to stay at number three in the industry.
Recent Statistics released from the regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA) showed Tigo gained only 37,348 new mobile voice subscribers as at January 2014 with a total of 4,058,573 subscribers and 14.28% of market share.
It placed fourth out of the six operators in getting more voice subscribers for the period, with MTN leading followed by Vodafone then Airtel.
It also lost almost 81,000 data subscribers falling by 80,819 to a total 1,496,529 resulting in a reduced market share to 12.06%.
But Roshi Motman is optimistic under her leadership Tigo will become a stronger brand.

Roshi, a Swedish, joins Tigo after almost ten years with various companies in the Kinnevik Group, a key investor in Millicom.
She progressed in a variety of management roles at Tele2 in Sweden covering Product Management, Sales and most recently Customer Operations.
Prior to Tele2, Roshi was responsible for the development of mobile entertainment at Modern Times Group, parent company of TV channel Viasat.
She studied Electrical Engineering and Business Development at Chalmers University in Göteborg, Sweden.
Commenting on the appointment, Arthur Bastings, Millicom’s Executive Vice-President for Africa, said “Roshi takes the helm as Tigo continues its journey of transformation as a digital lifestyle company. We are looking forward to benefiting from her track record of innovative and customer centric leadership.”
In a message to Tigo’s staff, Mr Bastings praised Adil El Youssefi as being instrumental to the recent growth of the firm and warmly wished him well in his new role outside the group.
Meanwhile a new Deputy General Manager for the telecom operator is expected to be announced soon.
