It is an accident that will bring tears to the eyes of any man.
A 42-year-old was horrified to hear his penis snapping during sex, a medical journal reports.
The unfortunate man bled from the painful injury after fracturing the outer tissue of his member, known as the tunica albuginea.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine the injury occurred when the man’s penis accidentally hit the woman’s perineum (the space between the vagina and the anus).
The journal states: “On the basis of the clinical presentation, the patient was taken to the operating room for emergency repair.
“The patient had an uneventful postoperative course and was discharged from the hospital the morning after surgery.
“The patient was seen three months and six months after surgery and had regained erectile function without appreciable plaque formation or penile curvature.”
It comes after doctors at Kings College in London set out to establish the true average ‘size’ of the British male is shorter than first thought.
Dr David Veale, of King’s College London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and his colleague from King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, set out to create such a nomogram of male penis size measurements across all ages and races.
A search of medical literature revealed 17 studies with up to 15,521 males who underwent penis size measurements by health professionals using a standard procedure.
The analysis revealed that the average length of an erect penis was 13.12 centimetres (5.16 inches).
The average length of a flaccid phallus was 9.16 cms (3.6 inches), while the average length of a flaccid stretched penis was 13.24 cms (5.21 inches), according to the research.
