Our only hope is the Judiciary; ‘they are live goats’ – IMANI boss

President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has expressed confidence in the Judiciary and noted that they are increasingly becoming “very aggressive” in discharging their duties because the blatant cases of corruption “is getting to them.”

“Judges are becoming very, very aggressive these days because I think the stealing is getting to them,” he said.

[contextly_sidebar id=”gstXBfS64BzJEdJv3JtHvQljsRRZYNuw”]His remarks come in the wake of reports of massive disappointment expressed by some Ghanaians and a High Court Judge, Justice Ajet-Nasam over the how the state prosecutors poorly handled the criminal case brought against businessman Alfred Woyome.

The Judge, before acquitting and discharging Woyome on the two counts of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretense is said to have lambasted the state prosecutors for failing to call key witnesses to testify.

Justice Ajet-Nasam’s criticism was hailed by majority of Ghanaians who felt the AG’s department may have deliberately lost the case.

This seemed to have angered state prosecutors who issued a strong worded statement over what they termed as “unwarranted and uninformed attacks” on them.

But the IMANI boss argued that Judges are becoming aggressive and determined to maintain the dignity of the Judiciary because “they are experiencing the dumsor…they pay taxes.”

“Our only remedy now because everybody now is a dead goat – Our only remedy now is the judiciary because they are live goats,” he added.

He was certain that the failure of the AG’s department to effectively prosecute the case “shows some deliberate attempt not to involve the characters [key witnesses]…I think that this is the highest form of organized plunder and I am ashamed.”

He described Mr. Woyome as “just an arranger; he was an engineer of finances; he was the perfect middle man and so the people who actually benefitted from this rot have been left aside.”

Mr. Cudjoe suggested that the Attorney General must immediately charge the key witnesses who were not called to testify “because that is the only way we can redeem some image.”

“… Betty Mould Iddrisu, Barton Oduro, all those people that the Judge has rightly fingered should be charged now!” he fumed.
