Global Theatre to perform Hamlet at National Theatre tonight

The world-famous Globe Theatre Company from London will perform William Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the National Theatre in Ghana tonight.

This event according to the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin is part of the “Globe to Globe” Hamlet tour.

The tour opened at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London on 23 April 2014, the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth.

The Ghanaian leg of the Globe to Globe tour is being organised with the close collaboration of the British High Commission and the British Council in Ghana.

Speaking to Citi News,British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Bejamin said “we are really keen to create opportunities for people around the world and in Ghana to engage with Shakespeare, UK culture, UK organisations and people through projects.”

He also indicated how important it was, given the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death next year which he described as “important to the UK’s global profile and standing”.

Globe to Globe is a completely unprecedented theatrical adventure, which will see Hamlet tour to every single country on earth.

Sixteen extraordinary men and women are travelling across the seven continents, performing in a huge range of unique and atmospheric venues, from village squares to national theatres, from palaces to beaches.

The tour will end on 23rd April 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The company by then will have travelled to all 205 nations in the world.

Tickets are directly for sale at the National Theatre priced 25 GH for adults and 10 GH for students/ children. The show will begin at 7pm.
