Authorities of the Mion District Assembly in the Northern Region are unhappy about residents’ apathy towards paying their taxes.
In the direction to increase the assembly’s Internal Revenue Mobilization (IGF), a Taskforce has been established to pursue the agenda.

He warned that the assembly will not hesitate to prosecute indentified defaulters.
He bemoaned payment of property rates and thus called for attitudinal change.
According to him, the taskforce collected a total amount of GHC 10,268.00 for the 2014 fiscal year which fell short of the assembly’s revenue mobilization target.
Dan Mankandan said the assembly was committed to develop the district in line with the Better Ghana Agenda.
He maintained that residents there should support the assembly in its revenue mobilization drive to improve their socio-economic wellbeing.
The clergy and traditional rulers in the district pledged their commitment to encourage residents to pay their taxes to enable the assembly provide their basic needs.
They admitted that effective mobilization was the surest way the assembly could raise enough funds to accomplish its development agenda.
A representative of the Sang chief Imam, Alhaji Mutawakil Mahama said Islam was totally against tax evasion.
He reminded Muslims there of their responsibility to regularly pay their taxes as enshrined in the Holy Qur’an.
The Regent of Sang, Naa Musah Alhassan endorsed the assembly’s move to clump down on tax evaders.
He asked residents there to assist the assembly provide them with social amenities such as water, electricity, roads, school infrastructure and a decent market.
Sang the district capital of Mion is a major transit point between Yendi and Tamale.
