The office of Nana Akufo-Addo has denied reports that he is campaigning for his favorites ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national delegate’s conference.

Former chief of staff under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani has raised concerns over the rumors that Nana Addo has been campaigning for some people contesting for executive positions.

Mr. Mpiani said such a move from a potential flagbearer could be dangerous for party unity.

But spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid maintained there is no truth in the reports being peddled around about Nana Addo.

He explained that it will be difficult for Nana Addo as an individual who has a stake in the NPP “not to have preferences; after all, he is also going to vote for candidates so definitely he has a preference but as an experienced politician,” he will not openly show support and campaign for specific candidates.

Mr. Hamid maintained that Nana Addo will not go against his principles of democracy and will therefore not interfere in the choice of people to lead the party.

The NPP is scheduled to elect their national executives at their delegates’ conference in Tamale next month.

The candidates are vigorously campaigning across the country ahead of the conference.
