About 12 children who were withdrawn from the Countryside Children’s Welfare Home at Bawjiase in the Central Region following the revelations of abuse of the children have been sent back to the home.

[contextly_sidebar id=”v3ELr9nFKPwskMCBN8l0XxuXZxA6CJGz”]The orphanage was closed down by the Department of Social Welfare a few months ago as a result of the revelations by investigative journalist Anas Arimeyaw Anas.

The Department removed about 100 children from the facility but reports say months after the closure of the home, about 12 of the children have returned.

A source at the Department of Social Welfare who confirmed this to Citi News stated that the a welfare officer has been lodged at the home to monitor the conditions of the children.

According to the source, the children who are BECE candidates, have been sent back to the home to facilitate their academic work ahead of the BECE examinations.

Speaking to Citi News investigative journalist Anas Aremyaw Anas said he was aware of the development and added that he was not surprised at the development.

“I am aware of the development and it is not unexpected when it comes to the Department of Social Welfare they always do that. You do the investigations and at the end of the day they will not complement it so I am not surprised the kids have been taken back,” he stated.

He rejected claims that the children were sent back to the orphanage to prepare for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

“I feel that the department of Social Welfare feels embarrassed that somebody has pointed out a wrong that they should have done,” he pointed.
