Final funeral for Dagbon chiefs will be performed – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama says his government will do everything it can to permanently resolve the Dagbon chieftaincy stalemate.

[contextly_sidebar id=”auWewjBVqMmmhZYPexYMlCDU0wF8TGZy”]Top on government’s agenda according to President Mahama is to perform the final funeral rites of the late two Dagbon overlords.

At the 2015 Damba festival in Yendi, President Mahama said he instructed the Otumfour Mediation Committee to continue its sitting on the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.

Also at the grounds breaking ceremony for work to commence on the Eastern Corridor road, President Mahama said maintained that his government was committed to perform the funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.

“I spoke to the Otumfour and I know that he has called several of the chiefs and conferred with them and I am sure that soon we are going to see a breakthrough and movement towards celebrating the funerals of our departed fathers, the Yaa-Naas and from then move on to ensure that we have a succession that will be acceptable to all of us.”

He praised the chiefs and people of Dagbon for their peaceful co-existence over the years and encouraged them to cooperate with government to solve the Dagbon chieftaincy problem.
