Outspoken New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa K.T Hammond is leading a campaign to force top officials at the Electoral Commission (EC) including its Chairman Kwadwo Afari Gyan to resign.

[contextly_sidebar id=”r0LyWSEzIYzE4ZuD1tYfh5X3S4NsUvop”]Mr. Hammond said officials of the EC have caused financial loss to the state following the botched District Assembly Elections.

The local polls, earlier slated for March 3, were cancelled after a Supreme Court ruling.

It has emerged that the EC spent about GH¢317 million in preparation towards the elections.

Speaking to Citi News, a visibly livid KT Hammond called for heads to roll at the EC.

Though he said, “the constitution provides some iron clad protection for them” he insisted that “they must resign.”

“They think the president can’t touch them so they’ve become thin gods. They leave in Mars,” he stated.

Calls for prosecution of Afari Gyan

KT Hammond’s campaign follows appeals by pressure group, Movement for Change who are calling on government to prosecute Dr Afari Gyan and his deputies for causing financial loss to the state.

They claim negligence on the part of the Electoral Commissioner led to the cancellation of the District Assembly Election by the Supreme Court.

Members of the group are of the view that the law must guide heads of public sector institutions and make them accountable to the citizenry.
