Government has reviewed a ban on the use of motorbikes in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The review follows an application by the Municipal Security Council to the National Security Council following months of relative peace in the town.
Confirming the review to Citi News, the Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku Bukari Issaku said the review will enhance economic activities in the town.
“I have just been informed by the Interior Minister that the curfew on the ban on motorbikes within the Bawku municipality has been reviewed. And now men are supposed to ride from 6am to 6pm and they are not supposed to accommodate any person on the motorbike,” he said.
He added that the earlier directive that allowed women and some civil servants to ride motorbikes was still in force.
“I will get the information vans to go round and make the announcement. The review will enhance economic activity,” he stated.
Bukari Issaku reminded residents of the town that the review of the ban was partial and not a full withdrawal of the ban adding that “it is a partial review and taking it completely will depend on we as citizens of Bawku.”
Curfew on Bawku
Bawku has been under curfew for some time now following sporadic shooting incidents that has been happening in the area.
The ban on motorbike riding was subsequently imposed five years ago, to among other things, forestall the recurring shooting incidents.
