Some angry traders at the Kejetia market on Tuesday stormed the office of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to express their displeasure over plans to relocate them to the Adehyeman market for phase one of the Kumasi Central Market reconstruction to begin.

The traders besieged the KMA office following an arranged meeting between leadership of the Ketetia Traders Association (KTA) and the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu.

Led by the Public Relations Officer of KTA,  Andrews Koffie, the traders displayed a number of placards with inscriptions some of which read “Why Kejetia, how can you build ten thousand stores at Kjetia?” “Kejetia is no more lorry terminal!”

The traders have accused KMA authorities of sending three military men to mark stores for demolition at the bus terminal and further gave the traders till April to vacate the premises.

During the meeting, the mayor, Kojo Bonsu, conceded that the KMA had not taken the appropriate measures in explaining the importance of the project to the traders.

He further assured that he will consult government on the matter for a proper solution to the matter.

He told the leadership of KTA to remain in their shops till further notice.
