Chairman of the Electoral Commission Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan is expected to appear before Parliament today, March 10, to answer questions bothering on the cancellation of the District Assembly and unit committee elections and its effects on the nations local governance system.

Members of Parliament a week ago insisted that Dr Afari Gyan should be summoned before the House to brief them on plans for the new elections.
Postponement of local election
A fisherman and aspiring assembly man sued the EC for not accepting his nomination forms and further argued that the EC was organizing the elections with a Constitutional Instrument which had not matured.
The Supreme Court in its ruling described the processes of the assembly election as “unconstitutional” citing unavailability of the CI hence ordering the EC to cancel the Elections and start all over again.
The EC has subsequently announced that it is preparing a new CI to Parliament.
