The Trade Union Congress (TUC) is blaming successive governments for what it says is the lack of development in Ghana.

According to the TUC, past and present governments have failed to implement policies that will alleviate the plight of Ghanaians.

Ghana attained independence in 1957 under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who was the then Prime Minister.

The country marked its 58th Independence day celebration last Friday at the Black Stars Square in Accra.

Speaking to Citi News, Secretary-General of the TUC Kofi Asamoah however said Ghana has nothing to show after 58 years of independence.

“Our leaders over the years have never had the oversight to ensure that our country is put on the level of development that can go at pace with our years of independence. We are 58 years and we still think there is a lot more to do,” he said.

Kofi Asamoah pointed out that Ghana still has deficit “in employment, social protection and in the lifestyle of the people”after 58 years of independence.

He therefore emphasized the need for Ghana to draw its “attention to the deficits we have had over the years to serve as a guide into the future to ensure that appropriate solutions to the numerous problems are provided.”

“Our leaders should be visionaries enough to be able to provide the kind of leadership that can take us into the future,” he said.
