The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has remanded a 59-year old fish monger into prison custody for trafficking her son and two grandchildren at Senya Bereku in the Central Region.

Narrating the facts of the case to the court, Police Detective Sergeant Peter Agbelie said the complainant, based in Winneba, is a worker with Challenging Heights, a Non-Governmental Organisation that rescued the trafficked children.

He said the victims, all boys, are aged 12, 15, and 17.

He said in January this year, the accused collected GHC1000.00 from one Esi to perform the funeral rites of her late son and, in exchange, gave the three children to Esi to use as labourers at Yeji.

A Good Samaritan, who heard the case, however, informed officials of the NGO and a formal report was made to the police.

The Prosecutor said the accused was arrested and in her caution statement admitted the offence.

He said the children had been rescued and handed over to other family members of the accused person while the police are looking for Esi.
