Twenty students from the 10 regions of Ghana have been awarded with the President’s Independence Day Awards.

It was instituted in 1993 to award scholarships to deserving Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates.

In previous years, a student from each region was awarded but a suggestion from the Ghana Education Service (GES) in 2001, saw the number increased to make room for a boy and a girl from each region.

The 2015 President’s Independence Day Awards was on the theme: “Achieving transformation through national unity”.
