A Former Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Professor Agyemang Badu Akosa has charged President John Mahama to show decisive leadership in the fight against corruption in the country.
The Presidency was ranked the second most corrupt institution in a recent survey released by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), a tag government has vehemently rejected.
[contextly_sidebar id=”SQuIR3ECghsoKO6M7IZYZFYneULMVTqC”]Speaking to Citi News, Professor Badu Akosa cautioned President Mahama against disregarding the perception of Ghanaians about corruption.
He rather urged him to step up efforts at tackling corruption as a measure of increasing public confidence in his drive to fight the menace.
“In the last few years, issues of GYEEDA, the issue of National Service Secretariat and so on have unearthed and I think that is important that the President shows decisiveness in dealing with these things.
“I know that the wheels of Justice take a long time but it is important that at least the AG’s department is put on serious alert to make sure they should be clear on what to they will do once the report comes out,” Akosa stated.
IEA survey
The survey was conducted in all the ten regions of Ghana with persons aged 18 years and above as the target population.
The IEA noted that one of the most pressing governance challenges confronting the country is the high prevalence of bribery and corruption.
Respondents in the survey ranked Tax officials and Members of Parliament as third and fourth most corrupt respectively.
Other corrupt officials, according to respondents, were government officials, District Chief Executives, Judges and Magistrates, Assembly Men and Women, Immigration and the army respectively.
