The first beneficiary of the Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE), Mary Mensah has received the Professor Kwesi Abotsia Dickson prize for the best Graduating Student in Religions (Christian option) by the University of Ghana.
Ms. Mensah was rewarded with a certificate and an unspecified amount of money.
The ceremony to confer the academic prizes for congregation 2014, took place at the Great hall of the University of Ghana on Friday.
An elated Mary Mensah told citifmonline.com after accepting her award, “the first time I had the call that i should come for the letter for the award I was very very excited and I just can’t believe. All the hard work has paid off but I can say that I actually made it by the grace of God.”
Mary Mensah is the first beneficiary of the Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE). The Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE) is an initiative by Citi FM that seeks to provide full scholarships to brilliant but deprived students to further their education.
The project currently supports 16 students in various tertiary and secondary institutions across the country.
According to Ms. Mensah, the award is a source of motivation and an indication that hard work pays.
Speaking about how the COPE project has helped her, Mensah said, “COPE sponsored my university education throughout the four years. I am very grateful and I know they are supporting other students. I want to encourage the other students who are benefiting from the COPE that they should do their best to bring honour to Citi FM.
“Times are really hard and when you get someone to support you one way or the other, then you have to be grateful to God. They should study hard and do their very best.”
