Ugandan police abuse homosexuals

Many Ugandans oppose homosexuality and lesbianism

A report by a human rights group indicates that Ugandan Police harass and physically abuse gay people in custody/

According to the BBC, Chaptter Four Uganda documented several cases of men suspected of being homosexual having intrusive physical examinations.

Homosexuality is illegal in Uganda and the government is planning to introduce new harsher legislation for the act.

Uganda’s internal affairs minister has denied the gallegations but has said his office will take a look at the findings.

Aronda Nyakairima told the BBC that the Ugandan government did not discriminate against anyone.

The report which was under the theme Where Do We Go For Justice? said officers often refuse to investigate cases reported by gay men and lesbians.

According to the report, there were several instances when the Police charged them with crimes such as having sex against the order of naturer, sodomoy etc.
Some revealed that they had been beaten by the Police and were harassed into signing false and self-incriminating statements.
Others also said they were compelled to have their genitals and rectums examined.
